Oik Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I know it seems akward to recieve on the tongue. The real fear of the Eucharist falling is valid. It is very simple though. No instruction is needed, just stick out your tongue!
karin Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 I recieve on the tongue and it is not hard i like it much better than recieving in the hand which i had to do once. I also recieve both species(sp?) too i hate it when i am not able to.
jgirl Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I receive on the tongue, and it's funny because I don't even get to stick my tongue too far out, before the priest puts the Host on it (because he's figured out I like to receive it that way). I receive on the hand when it's a layperson, and only in extreme cases, do I receive from the cup. I only say extreme because one time, there was a new sacristan at the Newman Center, and she wasn't thinking. She put a bunch of unconsecrated hosts into the the ciborium in the tabernacle that was half full of Consecrated hosts. When the priest opened the tabernacle, he had no clue which ones were Christ's Body and Blood and which ones were the bread. He broke the main host into as many tiny pieces as he could, but then when that ran out, everybody else received from the chalice.
homeschoolmom Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005
over here we have a thing where, up until Confirmation you receive on the tongue and afterwards you receive in the hand- i dunno why we do it that way... jgirl Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005
why recieve on the hand from a lay person?
My friends who are EMs say that it weirds them out when they have to put the Host on people's tongues, so I figured that there are probably quite a few more who have a problem with it, too. They shouldn't, but that's one of the reasons why there probably shouldn't be Extraordinary Ministers. The interesting thing is that we have three priests in our parish. One of the associate pastors is really orthodox. If our transitional deacon assists at the Mass, the two of them distribute the Hosts. If not, then he is the only one, plus two EMs distrbute the Precious Blood. This morning, the other associate said Mass, and even though he's orthodox, he had one EM distributing the Body with him, and then four chalices for maybe 30 people. It was kind of ridiculous.
