dspen2005 Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 today, a JW told me that the CC teaches that Christ and God were the same, but they are actually 2 different persons... she asked me, "if the CC teaching was true, then why did Christ pray to the Father in the Garden, if they were the same?"
dUSt Posted July 18, 2005 Posted July 18, 2005 They are the same and they are one. Similar to how water can be solid, liquid and vapor--all different, yet, all the same. Ice can say that it's different than water, which is true, and ice can also say that's it IS water, which is also true.

She seems to misunderstand the doctrine of the Trinity. The Father and the Son are two distinct persons (hypostases), and yet they are one in essence (ousia). The Jehovah's Witnesses fall into a form of Arianism in that they deny the fully divinity of Christ.
Nathan Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005
I never knew that about the JW's!
Something tells me most of the JW's don't even know that about the JW's.
StColette Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 hehe my dad had a few JW's come to the house a few weeks back. They had a rather long discussion about a number of things. But then dad brought up Our Lady. And he told them that she was free from sin and completely perfect. He said their expressions were priceless. They got up from the couch and headed for the door, with dad right behind them. lol He continued telling them about Our Lady all the way up the driveway lol
Nathan Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 Yeah, honestly, I try to avoid JW's whenever I can. Talking to them is like talking to a brick wall, in my experience. Nothing you can say will change their mind that they're completely right and you're completely wrong -- not even pointing out the football-field-sized holes in their arguments. It's like they've got parts of their brains shut off; like they've been lobotomized or something. All I can say is, I'm sure glad I'm not one of them!
StColette Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 Dad said they actually sat there and talked for a couple of hours. lol But when he brought up Our Lady they wanted to get out of there quickly. He did explain to them that we don't worship her though. He told them to invite some of their friends to come and visit again lol
Nathan Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 Actually, I have a friend whose father does the same thing with JW's. He's a devout Muslim who's pretty well-versed in other faiths, a really nice man, and he always invites them in to sit down and have coffee. I wish I had his calm when dealing with these people... these days if they come knocking on my door I just tell them to beat it.
phatcatholic Posted July 23, 2005 Posted July 23, 2005 hehe......."lobotomized"........i'll have to remember that one!
Soccer 15 SWC Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 Thank you for this info I have had a bit of trouble with a JW.
phatcatholic Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 we have a wealth of info on the JW's here

White Knight Posted July 27, 2005 Posted July 27, 2005 Jehovahs Witnesses dont believe in alot of what Christianity/Catholicism teaches, They dont believe in the Holy Trinity, They dont believe life after death, They dont believe in hell. they believe we cease to exist when the human body dies. Ive been in plenty of debates with them, and this right there is deeply flawed.
Quietfire Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Had a few lady JW's show up at my door a few months back. After a twenty minute conversation, it became an additional twenty minute debate. I then asked them, "Why do you pray to Jesus if you refuse to accept His divinity?" The look on their faces were priceless. They denied it, and I had to point out the whole Gabriel to Jesus to spirit person thing. One even claimed that she "used" to be Catholic. I had to correct her and tell her that if she was never Catholic because if she were she wouldnt be standing there with a Watchtower flyer in her hand. Havent seen them since. Oh well.
Didacus Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 The quickest way I found of getting rid of them is I told them I was Satanic once... NOW THAT WAS QUITE THE LOOK ON THEIR FACES!!! (and yes, that was wrong of me, very wrong, I know I know - purgatory, purgatory, purgatory)
