Fidei Defensor Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Sorry to be bother some, and maybe i just missed the section, but you should add a section about the historical accuracy of the Bible and whether or not its "true". Im having issues with people with that subject, and it would be helpful to add a section about it to the references. If there are any things on it, please direct me to them, otherwise, think about maybe adding it to the references. Thanks.
phatcatholic Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 i will definitely keep this in mind. btw, there's a thread pinned at the top of the apo board called "board updates: and place for suggestions." i would ask that any subsequent suggestions be posted there. thanks

journeyman Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Phat, I just saw the new reference section is up and running. Looking good . . . you and Cure and Hughey put in some massive time to get that looking as clean as it does, and still have over 6000 linked references. May need to beef up the search tool . . . or maybe the descriptors. I tried "bible" and "truth" and came up pretty dry. Fidei . . . is your problem with people who don't accept there is any truth to the Bible, or that it is, alone, the literal and exclusive truth? If the latter, the sola scriptura sections may help. from The Bible section: http://www.phatmass.com/directory/index.php/cat_id/23 A general article that may help identify terms that will help you search out additional resources: What Does The Church Really Say About The Bible? journeyman Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 specifics . . . or just the general assertion? Do they deny there was a King David in Israel? a Solomon? the four sectors of Alexander's empire? a Ceasar in Rome? a Pilate or a Herod? If there is one fact they accept as sufficiently proven by other sources, then the general assertion has to go. Once you're discussing a particular fact or passage, you can then use Catholic teaching to categorize that passage (if it's been done . . . and for that you probably need Phat and his Navarre - or other, even Protestant - commentaries). Even the "fiction" in the Bible is there for a purpose. Gulliver's Travels was fiction, yet is considered a literary effort to combat a real problem. Not all the Bible was written for the purpose of being a "history" as we like to understand that term today (the prophecy books, for instance . . . or the psalms or proverbs). Where the objection is what could be literature, rather than history, is the question really "is that true in and of itself" or "what was the underlying problem the author addresses using a literary vehicle?" probably not much help to your specific issue

At this point, it is just a general assertion. He told me that
How can what you follow be logic? That F****** bible is full of more hole then star wars. I would be more inclined to belive in the vulcan from star f**** trek then believe that rediculiously inane read. I've read it. I've read ther Qu'ran. I have read the skrits of hindu and buhddism. All of them make more sense than the bible
Im just going to place the burden of proof on him, if he replies back to me ever. I seriously doubt anyone that accuses those things has done any serious research with the bible and other scriptures of religions.
