Mrs. Bro. Adam Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I've been diagnosed with Type 2 diabeties. And the fun begins....
homeschoolmom Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 From what I understand, though, type 2 diabetes can be controlled with diet and exersize. My best friend has diabetes and she avoided insulin through these other means. What have your doctor's told you?
Mrs. Bro. Adam Posted July 20, 2005 Author Posted July 20, 2005 The doctor I went to told me to check my blood sugar regularly, put me on a 1200 calorie diet, and gave me a prescription for a diabetic pill which also helps you to lose weight.
Brother Adam Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 (edited) why do I ever open my ******* mouth? Edited July 20, 2005 by Brother Adam
Old_Joe Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I'm sorry to hear that. You can get recipe books for Type II diabetics.

Fides_et_Ratio Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 yuck, diabetes are no fun (my grandfather has had them for a loooong time.. but he hardly listens to a thing the doc says!)
sweetpea316 Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 Aww, I'm sorry to hear that hun... Prayers for you and your health. It runs in my family, so I'd better be on the lookout too... -_-
the_rev Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 sooner or later I will have diabetes as my family is all diabetic. Yours in Christ, Eddie Lee
cmotherofpirl Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 I was diagnosed a type 2 diabetic in April. I have lost 35 pounds and am healthier now than I have have been in over 20 years. If you cut the starchy carbs [peas, potatoes, pizza, pasta, bread] out of your diet you can do well and avoid the long term complications - kidney failure, blindness and heart attacks. I talk to people daily who have diabetics for 40 - 50 years. There are many other things out there that are a lot worse than this. The key is test Test TEST.
Lil Red Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 my dad has had diabetes for 20 years. he is in very good physical condition, tests himself, gives himself injections, etc. the best part about this is that the prognosis for diabetes is better than it was when he first was diagnosed and the recipes are even better!!! you have my prayers, and if you need anything, let me know.
Didacus Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 However unpleasant diabeties can be, it can be controlled rather well and has a very limited influence on daily life. My sister has had diabeties for several years now (and it related to other problems such a dialisis). The most important thing with diabeties is you need the personal discipline to keep it under control. don't get me wrong, it is a serious condition, and my sympathies are with you. You seem to be well encouraged and taking it all with a great attitude - me thinks you will do well, especially with the support from friends and family that you seem to have. Prayers and God bless...
cmotherofpirl Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 You do feel so much better once your glucose is under control. Your vision might change as well.
