Maccabeus Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 In Genesis in the story of creation, why doesn't it say that God also created Hell and Purgatory?
Laudate_Dominum Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 God's revelation was not all at once, but was veiled in the Old Testament and fulfilled in the New (in Christ). The revelation of the precise nature of humanity's salvation was pedagogical. There are indications of hell in the OT, but the completeness of the "last things" really only makes sense in the light of Christ and His redemptive act, and thus it would not have been fitting to reveal all the details with clarity in the old dispensation. But again, the truths of salvation are there in a veiled form, awaiting full revelation in Christ, the end and perfection of the Old Covenant.
