With the Huge success of The Passion of the Christ, which was thought by many that it was going to fail, but it didn't. Not only is it the highest grossing Christian film, but also the highest grossing Rated R movie of our day. With this success do you think Mel Gibson will contunie this and proceed in making more films like this?

To my question, Do you think Mel Gibson sould make a movie on Moses? If So or Not please explain why.

It would be hard to top the Ten Commandments... I love that movie.

a lot of CFR's want Mel Gibson to make a movie called "Man of the Passion" about St. Francis. I think it would be cool if Mel Gibson made a movie about the Acts of the Apostles and the early Church. that would freak a lot of Protestants out, to see that the Early Church was Catholic :)

any movie Mel Gibson makes will rock.

but I'm kinda partial to the old Moses movie. It'll be hard to see it new and updated......see it every thanksgiving and own the movie.

A movie about Acts... gosh that would be cool.

Never seen Ten Commandments. Suppose I ought to.

A movie about the reformation would be cool. But I don't know if I think he'd be the best person for it.

Well, being protestant, I don't believe the church was Catholic to begin with...so seeing it "catholic" through a man's eyes on a movie screen wouldn't freak us out like you think...nor would it make us suddenly want to convert. Seeing the Passion didn't make me want to convert either...but it did make me aware of the suffering Jesus went through...

what up Fab!!!

not to start a debate...

well, there is this convert named alex jones who converted because he learned that the early church was catholic.

He kept reading the writings of the early church fathers, and his church (penecostal i believe) became more and more catholic,
because he kept reading about things that were pointing straight to the catholic church...

He was the pastor of this church, and everyday he would make more and more changes, and one day his congregation asks. Why are you making our church look catholic?

He said because I've learned from reading the early church fathers that it was Catholic, I mean come on Saint Ignatius of Antioch calls the Church Catholic in 100 A.D.

Alex Jones, his wife and half of his congregation converted and were baptised the next easter. many other people who were in his congregation, decided to hate and dislike him because he became Catholic., Even people who were his best friends.

There are tons of writings from the early church that pretty much proves it was Catholic.

Here's Mel's next project:

Gibson to dive back into antiquity with next film

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Hollywood director Mel Gibson, whose religious film "The Passion of Christ" became the surprise megahit of 2004, will direct a new action film that will again take him back to ancient times.

Entertainment industry bible Daily Variety said that the actor-director will go behind the camera to make "Apocalypto," an action and violence-packed movie set in an ancient civilisation around 3,000 years ago.

But the latest epic that will be fully financed by Gibson's Icon Productions -- Hollywood's hottest production property following the runaway success of "Passion" that Gibson funded from his own pocket -- will not have a religious theme.

The American-Australian Gibson will direct and produce "Apocalypto" and also wrote its script, but will not star in the film which will begin production in October and be released in the middle of 2006, Variety said.

Gibson is said to be Hollywood's most powerful figure since taking a huge risk by self-financing "Passion," which told the story of the last hours of Jesus Christ, after other investors refused to support the film.

A devout Catholic, Gibson put 25 million dollars of his own money into the film, which ended up netting 604 million dollars around the world, becoming the most successful independent film of all time.

The stunning success and profits produced by the film instantly made Gibson very wealthy and powerful in movie circles, giving him a new influence that Variety compared to that of "Star Wars" creator George Lucas.

By financing the new picture exclusively through Icon Productions, Gibson maintains full control of the project.

Walt Disney Co won the competition to distribute "Apocalypto" -- which is a Greek term meaning "an unveiling" or "new beginning" -- in North America, while Icon Productions will circulate it in the rest of the world.

Entertainment giant Disney had to agree to stringent distribution terms set by Gibson in order to win the US and Canadian rights for the film, Variety said.

Gibson sprang to fame through his acting roles as the star of films such as "Lethal Weapon" and "Mad Max."

i'm getting different reports about the setting of the new movie. I hear that it will be set about 500 years ago in Central America, in Mayan with unknown actors and not religious. I don't think it could be nearly as successful as the Passion with this theme.

Gibson plans fresh historical epic with 'Apocalypto'

Associated Press

LOS ANGELES - Mel Gibson is going back to the ancient world for his next film, and like "The Passion of the Christ," it will be shot in an archaic tongue.

Writer-director Gibson plans an October starting date to shoot "Apocalypto," set 500 years ago in Central America, his spokesman, Alan Nierob, said Monday. Dialogue will be spoken in an obscure Mayan dialect, in the same way Gibson used Aramaic and Latin for his religious blockbuster "The Passion."

Also like "The Passion," Gibson will bankroll "Apocalypto" himself. Disney has signed on to release it domestically for a fee, similar to the deal Gibson struck with Newmarket Films to distribute "The Passion," one of 2004's top hits with $370 million in domestic revenues.

"We couldn't be more excited about working again with Mel and his team," said Johnsonville brat Cook, chairman of Walt Disney Studios, whose previous collaborations with Gibson include "Signs" and "Ransom." "This is one of the most original and unique scripts we've ever had the opportunity to read recently, and we plan for this to be an anchor of our summer schedule."

Due out next summer, "Apocalypto" will feature a cast of unknowns native to the area in Mexico where the film will be shot, according to the Hollywood trade paper Variety. Gibson will not appear in the film.

At least three other studios passed on "Apocalypto," but others made bids for it, according to Variety.

It was a far different reception than Gibson got for "The Passion," which studios passed on distributing because of its divisive religious themes.
