"SYRACUSE, N.Y. On Monday, four Roman Catholic women plan to be ordained as priests during a cruise on the Saint Lawrence River. The women expect the Vatican to respond by excommunicating them.

The women, including one from California and one from Canada, are attending an international, ecumenical conference on women's ordination at Carleton University in Ottawa.

The ordination ceremony is planned by R-C Womenpriests, an international coalition of Catholics who advocate women's ordination. Three female bishops will perform the ceremony, The Post-Standard in Syracuse reports.

Five other women will be ordained deacons. Some say they are withholding their names because they don't want to lose their jobs in the church.

Local Catholic leaders call the ordination a symbolic protest and say the ceremony will not be valid.

The ordination follows a 2002 ordination of seven women on the Danube River between Austria and Germany. The Vatican excommunicated them when they refused to retract their vows."

Women will never be priests. People just have to accept it. We do have our place among religious (nuns, laity, oblates) and we need to recognize the gifts God gave us to use in His church. These people dare to call themselves Catholics? Selfish is what they are.

They expect the Vatican to excommunicate them and they're still doing it? That means that they value their stubborn positions more than the Eucharist, and we should value nothing more than the Eucharist.

One can only logically conclude that they do not truly believe in the Real Presence...and are therefore unworthy of and unfit for priesthood anyway.

If ever this happens where I am within 100 miles (give or take) I will be there to prevent it.

the seas may not be under the jurisdiciton of a diocese, but they're under special Luxmarian jurisdiction. >:(

I just can't believe they don't care that they can't celebrate the mystery of faith and the Real Presence in the Eucharist if they get excommunicated (which they are expecting) and they don't care? They need to get a reality check.

I personally think that any female who wants to be a priest doesn't understand what the priesthood means...and there fore should not be a priest, even if they weren't female.

Interesting justaposition of message headers . . .

AMS Publications web blog http://avemarisstella.blogspot.com is covering this story and will have the most up to date coverage that is made available, because I think these things are just to funny, women priests!

it's sad. makes me somewhat ashamed to be a woman. men and women are complementary, not carbon copies...we have different roles in the Church! (i'm preaching to the choir but hey ranting is allowed right?) above all though, if the Church says no women priests, then it's not Catholic to protest. (could we call them protestants? since they're protesting the Catholic Church?)

has anyone figured out why its always in the middle of a river, ocean, or lake????

they think that since there is no diocesan jurisdiction they can do it.

but since the Pope has jurisdiction over the whole world, that doesn't matter.

next they'll start forming their own dioceses... I can't wait to meet Bishop Sally of the Atlantic Archdiocese... I wonder how many heretical catholic fish she'll have in her flock

From Butler's Lives of the Not-A-Chance-In-Heck-Ever-Gonna-Happen-Saints:
St. Sally, Bishop

St. Sally led a relatively unknown life in the United States as a card carrying member of the National Organization for Women, the National Abortion Rights Action League, and the Future Church organization.  Her open rebellion against two thousand years of Catholic Tradition and her complete disobedience and disregard for her bishop's commands led her at last to an area covered only under the jurisdiction of the remarkably sexist Pope Benedict XVI where she sought ordination.  After her excommunication, she declared herself High Matriarch of the Catholic Womyn's Church and excommunicated the pope for "crimes of papist popery against the sovereignty of the Diocese of the Atlantic Ocean."  Later, in her self-imposed infallible role (infallibility of the High Matriarch was pronounced dogma by the High Matriarch herself in 2014), she declared that Kenneth Villers was to be excommunicated from all Christianity and declared an apostate for his "ultramontane" policies and his firm stand as the most famous Catholic rap artist ever against the Catholic Womyn's Church.  She is best known for her ordination of Bishops Littleles and Dairygirl and her eventual claims to be the reincarnated spirit of the Blessed Virgin.  When the famous cloning project turned wrong, Wolfy II, the talking dog, claimed the right to be ordained, she refuted him as being not valid matter for female ordination.  There was much rejoicing when she canonized John Kerry, who once tried ridiculously unsuccessfully to run for the presidency of the United States.  On March 15, 2024, she was deposed and martyred by King and Supreme Chancellor Aloysius of the Luxmarian sea colonies.  Eventually, she was deified and her temple is next to the Shrine of the Catholic Womyn's Church to Artemis, the Greek goddess of womynhood.  Her temple is honored and venerated by her followers and by 16-year-old Wiccan girls and Goths everywhere.
Well said.

There is a difference between equality and sameness. Unfortunately, these foolish wannabe-priestesses don't seem to grasp it....or perhaps they just choose to ignore it. :(

I find it appalling that these "priests" refuse to announce their names, fearing that they may lose their jobs in the church. Why should they work for the Church, if they go completely against what the Church teaches? Its cowardly, and they're wolf in sheeps clothing. Imagine if one of them were a DRE or somehow in charge of teaching the faith to children?

It's blasphemy all around. This ignorance is digusting.

I totally agree! And not only that, but it means that They know they are wrong! If you are going to hide what you are doing, that usually means that your consience knows it is wrong to do it!
