Laudate_Dominum Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005
I'm not talking Eastern Orthodox or anthing like that, I need to know what is a mystic, what is a charismatic, and what is a traditional Catholic??? I'm so confused with all of this vocabulary!!
A mystic is really anyone who is living life in the Spirit of God. But in a more specific sense the word is usually used to describe a saint who's life involved extraordinary mystical phenomenon such as visions, ecstasy, miracles, and the like. A charismatic is the common designation for a Christian who has a spirituality involving the charismatic gifts (tongues, prophecy, etc..). But there are various uses and senses of this term. A traditional Catholic, perhaps meaning a traditionalist Catholic, is a Catholic who has sensibilities which largely reflect the culture, practices and liturgical life of the Church prior to the Second Vatican Council. Typically the Latin Mass is preferred as well as displines and forms of piety reminiscent of the pre-vatican II era. But again, many people can be described as traditional Catholic who may not fit this criteria exactly.
