EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 I know that devotions to these "angels" are wrong but I'm having trouble finding a Church document referencing this New Age hijacking of archangels. I'm being told that these supposed archangels are tied to Jewish and Eastern Catholic tradition - which I know just isn't true. Then there is this alleged quote from Thomas Aquinas, which I can't find a source for: "Angels transcend every religion, every philosophy, every creed. In fact Angels have no religion as we know it... Their existence precedes every religious system that has ever existed on Earth." Any help?
Pio Nono Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 JMJ 7/25 - St. James the Greater thedude, Some of these names you mention, along with others like Uriel, come not from some New Age weirdo stuff, but from some apocryphal works which, though never considered canonical, were often inspirational to Jews and Christians. There's no tradition that holds that these "other" archangels have proper names, but as far as I know, there is nothing contradicting them having names. Hope this helps. Yours, Pio Nono
