Fides_et_Ratio Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 so as I was browsing the latest chick tract... so I know what to be on the lookout for (cruises and such tend to be PRIME for people to leave stupid stuff like that lying around) and I noticed jack chick is getting a little more crafy and subtle with his attacks on Catholicism... in the latest tract, a lady walking around an art gallery and discussing idolatry walks by a (poorly) reproduced image somewhat similiar to Our Lady of Czestochowa, and then a few with "priests" in vestments with incense, etc.--I'm not too sure what sort of an art gallery she was in...-- and in the end, (this lady who knew nothing of Christianity!) turned out to have rosary beads in her pocket! ... which, it's actually a poorly written tract because the lady herself first brings up idolatry as blasphemy and no more than a few boxes later she has no idea what it is... anyway, I think some aspiring artist should make parody chick tracts. I know there's one out there about jack chick personally... but I think someone should make one that truly does outline the Catholic faith for what it is.. rather than what jack chick makes it out to be. Whenever I find a tract, I try to fold up a piece of paper refuting his claims, box by box, and then put it back where I found it... but it'd be lot more entertaining if I could draw!
Brother Adam Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 yeah, I tear up tracts I find because the people who put them there will never be back after them and I don't have time to scribble bunches of notes. I hate tracts.
theculturewarrior Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 That's a great idea! I am on it! I know just the person to bring this idea to, in fact, he may have already thought of it himself. Thanks!
Brother Adam Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 If you make them I will buy them by the thousands.
Brother Adam Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 lol. I couldn't really buy them, but I sure would love to see them.
theculturewarrior Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 I'll bet dUSt would market something like that.
Laudate_Dominum Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 I've always wanted to produce Catholic tracts. I believe I could write some very good ones on certain subjects. I never thought of doing it comic book style though, I'm not good enough at drawing. Although, I've heard Chick stopped actually drawing the tracts many years ago. He employs an artist to do all the drawing, he just writes them. Maybe I could find a friend who can draw really well and we could both make them.
theculturewarrior Posted July 25, 2005 Posted July 25, 2005 We're both on it! Great! This is going to happen! If God gives me the grace, I WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!
Fides_et_Ratio Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005 lol, if I could get my friend to convert (she's in an art school as a fine arts major... she does it all!).. she would be totally awesome at something like this. I hate chick tracts. I usually hate tracts in general, but I think it's because most of the ones I come across are slams on Catholicism... it'd just be cool to staple a rebuttle to them instead of having to decide if I have the time to write one out.
theculturewarrior Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I'm just imagining the horror of the Jesuit priest...as he discovers...JACK CHICK IS THE ANTI-CHRIST!!!! AGGGHHHH!!!!

photosynthesis Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 I don't know if this provides a true outline of the Catholic faith, but... http://swaft.info/cheek/cheek0.html
EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 If someone makes them, I'll put them on catholicfiles.com. By the way, I've never found a tract anywhere...

Fides_et_Ratio Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005 I was given (not found) a tract while on the March for Life (I sort of expected that...) and I was also given one by an old youth group I went to a few times about a year ago as I was coming out of the movie theater. other than that, sometimes I just see them littered in places... by the pharmacy in Kroger, stuck inbetween books in the library, etc. ..it's not necessarily a frequent thing
photosynthesis Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 In New York I got a HUGE amount of Jews for Jesus tracts, and a few other random Protestant tracts... but never a Chick tract. My roommate is very into passing out tracts, she has a million tracts sitting in boxes in the room, saying stuff like "Are you going to heaven?" and "What is Baptism in the Holy Spirit?" and "Are you saved?" She is always talking about the power of tracts, but I think they are annoying.
Fides_et_Ratio Posted July 26, 2005 Author Posted July 26, 2005 ditto, I think they are annoying.. but for those that read them I think it'd be interesting (and entertaining) to have to look at both sides of the coin).
Dreamweaver Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 A Baptist student group on campus has been known to hand out tracts when they set up a booth in the Union. Heh, I thought the university had some statement about hateful literature! As far as I could tell one time, they only had an evolution tract and a general "God loves you" one.
Aloysius Posted July 26, 2005 Posted July 26, 2005 we need to get together a team of computer hackers in service to the Church to take down sites like chick.com and all that other carp.
