[quote name='Birgitta Noel' date='Jul 28 2005, 01:33 AM']Hi Nicole, we did a sit down and there are ways to save on lots of things.  Sometimes depending on where you go buffets can actually be more expensive.  I'm wiped right now, but remind me later and I can tell you two buffet horror stories!  (and yes, I know that people can tell sit down horror stories as well!)

Yeah, for us there really wasn't a huge difference in price (I think sit-down may have actually been cheaper, and then to save $$$ we just went with chicken instead of having more options), so we opted for sit down. Having year to plan is GREAT. We had a year and a half and lemme tell ya, its actualy easier on the wallet to have 12 months to scrape the cash together rather than only 6! :)

You could go with desserts and appitizers... That's most people's favorite part of the meal anyway...

Hmmmm...lots to think about. prose, I am SOOOO happy to hear I am not crazy and that you made plans before being officially engaged, too!

That's a lot fo good suggestions. cmom, I like what you said about buffets...I think I am actually leaning towards that now....but who knows.....

Im enjoying it too! It seems like an eternity next to never before I'll be in your place. It'll come sooner than I realize I'm sure.
Heres from friendly advice...

Remeber the fact that you're getting married! Don't stress out about the food and the dress. Enjoy the anticipation. Everything is going to be wonderful, you'll see.
Congrats by the way. :)

I've been to my Aunt and Uncle's wedding, they had a nice buffet, really enjoyable considering you can pick and choose what you want to eat (and go up for seconds).

hey nicole, 7month post wedding bride reporting in :-p

if you want to save money, i HIGHLY recommend either doing a tea time reception (between lunch and dinner with tea, desserts and pastries) or what i did, dessert and heavy orderb reception. we had an open bar (i wanted champagne but noone in my family is classy enough i guess :P:), orderbs to start and a HUGE dessert table and of course, a wedding cake and a large grooms cake as well (that was the center piece of the dessert table while the wedding cake got its own table). you can have desserts made, buy them OR have lots of people in your family chip in and make homemade stuff (which mine did and it was WONDERFUL!)

just a thought :)

What the purple monkey dishwasher is a groom's cake?

Personally, the best part of the wedding is the dance. I'd send people away to get their own dinners before I'd forgo the dancing.
That's just me though, because I'd serve people generic brand soda and pound cake before I cut back on the DJ. (And talk with the DJ about music you find offensive... like stuff that has gross lyrics)

Hours spent eating: 1, tops
Hours spent dancing: 3 or more :yahoo:

I went to my mom's cousin's wedding reception. It was a buffet style. It was still formal as in everyone dressed up. It was very nice as well. I liked the thought of being able to pick out food. The food was still fancy by the way. Also, if you have families coming it might be easier for them if you have buffet. That way if they have any fussy eaters as children (we have alot) then they can pick what they want.
Congrats

grooms cake is literally the grooms cake

the wedding cake, is also known as the bride's cake and is light, airy, usually white frosting.

the grooms cake is traditionally something heavier (read: chocolate, although you can do whatever you want, nicole, its YOUR wedding :D:) and goes home with the guests. i guess its a southern thing :idontknow:

i read about it in my wedding planning books and decided to make it the focus of the dessert table
