Does the absolution that the priest says have to be in a strict formula? For example, can it be worded differently? I'm asking this because sometimes each priest would say it differently (if it be slightly or drastically).

If the priest is of the Latin Rite, he should say:

"God, the Father of mercies,
through the death and the resurrection of his Son
has reconciled the world to himself
and sent the Holy Spirit among us
for the forgiveness of sins;
through the ministry of the Church
may God give you pardon and peace,
and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. "

However, to the best of my knowledge, all that is necessary on the part of the priest for the sacrament to be valid are the words, "I absolve you."

I couldn't find anything about there being a strict formula for what a Priest must say when he absolves you. But I would think, like Nick and Miles, that the Priest must say "I absolve you"

Also, if their is a defect and the priest uses the wrong words, the persons sins are still forgiven through a princple called eclessia supplet "The Church supplies".
