Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 I'm sorry, but this caption was hilarious!!!
Wake up Uncle Sam! The Jesuit has his hand on the press of your country!
And those convent pictures... pluEEEEze!
Thy Geekdom Come Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Darn straight. What do they not understand about, "the healthy do not need a doctor, but the sick do"?

Guest Eremite Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Well, it's assumed that the prostitute isn't going to stop her trade. The caricature is that confession is nothing more than a weekly washing for your soul, so you can go sin it up, and then get "fixed" at the end of the week. The Sacrament, of course, is no such thing.

Of course it's not such a thing, but regardless, a prostitute could be making her final Confession as a prostitute, but a righteous person isn't going to go to Confession for prostitution... For every repentant sinner, there must be a final Confession in a given state.
Guest Eremite Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 If she has no intention of reforming her life, even if she dies before being able to carry out her trade again, her confession would still be invalid. In that sense, the Sacrament is abused. But the proper understanding of the Sacrament, which the propaganda misses out on, is that repentance necessitates reform. The priest must take reasonable measures to ensure that the penitent intends to reform. The propaganda (like most propaganda) is true to an extent, in that many Catholics DO abuse the Sacrament. But it suggests that this is part of an inherently corrupt Sacramental economy, which it is not.

Couldn't a healthy person go to a doctor just to make sure that everything's the way it should be. I know I've gone to confession to ask the priest for help or prayers with a particular situation(s).

I mean...no one's perfect, that that's hardly worth pointing out...it just makes sense that sinners would go to Confession, so it seems silly to me, even though they obviously had it in the context of the unrepentant.

Old_Joe Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 These two are just sickening: I'm guessing that they wanted make it look like the priest was an alcoholic, or that the drunk man's problem was a result of the priests actions.

Guest Eremite Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005
modern anti-Catholic stuff isn't anymore original!
Yah, at least these are realistic looking. Jack Chick's comic books can't hold their water. It's like the difference between a real anti-Pope of old, and the nuts that pop up today. There's no comparison.

Thy Geekdom Come Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 *looks in closely to read Bible covers* "The Holy Bible...Editor: Martin Luther" Ah...that explains it...burn away!
photosynthesis Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 hahaha...why is it that in comic books and movies the villain always has a cat?? i guess having a golden retriever wouldn't make them look very evil. i think "Wake up Uncle Sam! The Jesuit has his hand on the press of your country!" could easily be changed to, "Wake up Uncle Sam! The liberal-secular humanist-atheist-relativist yuppie scum has his hand on the press of your country!
