meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary

[theculturewarrior]

I am rarely capable of meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary. Usually, when I pray it, I think about what's going on in my life and the people I care about. How do I train my mind to meditate on the mysteries, and are the promises our Lady gave to St. Dominic good for people like me?

As far as Our Lady's promises go, she is much more generous than I think we realize, I would not worry about that.

Besides, how we perceive the quality of prayer, and how it may appear through the eyes of God are two different things. The important thing is that you keep praying and put your trust in God and live in peace.

Regarding meditation of the mysteries, perhaps a booklet might help. There are books that have mediations that go along with each mystery that you could read before each decade and consider whilst praying.
There also books such as the Scriptural Rosary which have a short line or two to ponder for each bead of the Rosary. This could help develop the practice of discursive meditation which, once mastered, will prepare one for contemplation proper (which is a grace and no method can bring this about, but meditation will help prepare you).

I hope this helps.
