Jesus Freak Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 i have often wondered why catholics have crosses with Jesus hanging on them still(crucifix). Why wear these as necklaces and such when Jesus has risen and defeated death? He is no longer on the cross...
Carson Weber Posted August 6, 2005 Posted August 6, 2005 There are two answers I can think of quickly.. The first is that like Paul, we "preach Christ crucified" (1 Cor. 1:22). Secondly, we are not resurrected. Currently, as Christians on the way to heaven, we endure suffering, and it is by our conformation to Christ crucified that we share in these sufferings (Col. 1:24), thus becoming more like him in holiness (Rom. 8:29). The crucifix helps us focus upon the crucified Christ, wherein great meaning is given to our current status as members of his Mystical Body.
