Altar server age limit?

Is there an altar server age limit? Also, where would I go to learn more info about the acoylites? I'm 18, and I don't know if it's normal for someone my age to be an altar server.

No. If you feel compelled to serve, just ask your pastor. I am 20 and still serve occasionally. But since I am a seminarian now, I will be serving a lot.

At my parish, an eighteen year old asked the priest if he could still server at the altar. That night, a black van arrived at the guy's house, pulled him out of bed, and took him down to the seminary. We didn't hear from him for another four years!

You should ask Zachary ([url="http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/index.php?showuser=909"]qfnol31[/url]) about the Acolytate. He would probably be able to give you some information about it.

Acoylites are usually seminarians installed to serve for the Bishop by the Bishop.

acolytes are the last minor order before Ordination. It is specifically involved in distribution of the Eucharist.

Altar servers can be as old as they get. (i think) My grandpa still serves all of the time and he is like 85. :

Paul VI suppressed the minor orders and in the United States any Catholic male (not necessarily a seminarian) of at least 25 years may be made an acolyte by the bishop. An acolyte automatically overrides any extraordinary minister of holy communion because he has an ordinary/stable ministry while the EMoHC is not to be used ordinarily.

An accolyte is a glorified altar boy, basically an altar man, that can also help in the distribution of holy communion. Altar boys are actually considered to serve at the altar in the manner of an acolyte, basically doing the serving an acolyte would do minus the Eucharist thing. That's how they originally came about.

Anyway, an Acolyte can and actually should basically relieve an EMoHC from duty at any mass he attends. If I were an Acolyte I'd relieve like 5 of them from duty at every mass I ever attended. It's like having anti-EMoHC superpowers!
