Cam42
Is there an altar server age limit? Also, where would I go to learn more info about the acoylites? I'm 18, and I don't know if it's normal for someone my age to be an altar server.
Nope....I know several retirees that serve Mass. I also serve Mass and I am 33. Incidentally, I am an acolyte, so it is the ministry that is proper to me.

Cam42
Some of the things that I can do.... I am formally entrusted with lighting the altar candles. I am a permanent Extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. I can assist the deacon during the Mass. I can purify the vessels after Holy Communion. I can expose and repose the Blessed Sacrament. Before Vatican Council II, one was ordained to the highest of the minor orders, however, it was changed around 1972 to institution. Now, any MAN can be instituted as an acolyte, although it is rare today. From the General Instruction of the Roman Missal, no. 65
The acolyte is instituted to serve at the altar and to assist the priest and deacon. In particular it is for him to prepare the altar and the vessels and, as a special minister of the Eucharist, to give communion to the faithful.
Paladin D
I would like to be an acolyte, unfortunately there is nothing on the Richmond Diocese website about it. I'll have to talk to my priest.
