Anastasia13 Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 What is wrong with using the flood as an example of how will make a new Jerusalem for the saved and destroy the unsaved to try to show evidence for annihilation? In this particular case, what is the error other than the contradiction it would create with other parts of the Bible?
journeyman Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 one contradiction would be that God promised not to do that again Genesis 9:11 I will establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all bodily creatures be destroyed by the waters of a flood; there shall not be another flood to devastate the earth."
Anastasia13 Posted August 10, 2005 Author Posted August 10, 2005 Yes, but one could say that like physically destroying them then, He would never again destroy what remained of the unsaved after the final destruction.
phatcatholic Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 i'm not seeing how this relates to annhilationism......

journeyman Posted August 10, 2005 Posted August 10, 2005 I probably missed the whole point of the question . . . but doesn't Revelation sort of spell out how the destruction of the world leading to the New Jerusalem is going to occur? Not that it is a model of clarity, but it identifies causes and predicts the casualties; then moves on to the next cause and predicts casualties If you're looking for examples or analogies, wouldn't that be a plausible source? While a flood is something with which most people can identify, so are disease (plagues); cicadas (locusts); nuclear war (Sodom and Gomorrah; fire and brimstone)

but, it can't be a model for how the destruction (end times tribulation?) would occur b/c that means it would have to happen again. God says very plainly that he will never again destroy man w/ a flood. and as journeyman points out, floods aren't even mentioned in the apocalyptic literature.
