Anastasia13 Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 Maybe this is more history, but what ever happened to indulgences?
Pio Nono Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 JMJ 8/11 - St. Clare of Assisi Light and Truth, Indulgences are still around in our day. For saying certain prayers or doing certain good works, one can receive a partial indulgence (wipes away some of our debt due to forgiven sin) or a plenary indulgence (a fancy way of saying that all debt to forgiven sin is wiped away. Indulgences can't be received if the sin isn't already forgiven - if I murder someone and don't confess it, in Catholic belief I can't receive indulgences from it. It's like if I borrowed your car and totaled it - I can't really repay my debt to you until I receive your forgiveness. Hope this helps. Yours, Pio Nono
