Paladin D
I really enjoyed the film, some parts were pretty emotional that I teared up. I recorded it on both VHS and DvD, so hopefully I'll be able to make copies soon. Doesn't seem like they're selling it.
Fidei Defensor
I feel.. so.. calm after watching that. It just keeps making me think of how humble he was .. and how much I want to imitate him. God has a great saint with him, and hopefully, we will soon have the honor of calling him a saint as well.
White Knight
I didn't see the film but it look really well made, and the budget must have been decent. anyone have any idea what the budget was?
Colleen
I watched the second half of it, and I thought it was pretty good. It seemed more political than religious at times, but I liked it. There was a great emphasis on forgiveness and love, which I thought was good. Some of his quotes that they used (especially from the Council) were a little interesting . . . very focused on ecumenism and focus on the layman instead of the priest. Not that any of what was said was wrong, it just seemed that there was a great, perhaps unbalanced emphasis on that. It just rubbed me the wrong way, I guess. But I did like it for the most part. I really liked another film about John Paul II which starred Albert Finney. It was made in the eighties and was excellent (I think it's better than this one). ForHimAlone
I thought the movie was very well-done and very moving. I particularily liked the last half of the movie where the focus was more on the religious life of John Paul II. This movie was definitely a tear-jerker, though. Fides_et_Ratio
I only got to watch about the last hour or so (highly unfair... a friend was over and very distracting)... However, I was wondering how much of it was "spiffed up" for the movie and how much was true. So now I am reading George Weigel's biography ("Witness to Hope" with renewed vigor to finish the almost 900 page book!). The ending, when they showed footage of the real JPII's election was good. It was funny to think how different he looks, since, as one who reconciled only 3 years ago... I remember a greatly worn and much older-looking Pope. He was still a genius.
