I watched the second half of it, and I thought it was pretty good. It seemed more political than religious at times, but I liked it. There was a great emphasis on forgiveness and love, which I thought was good. Some of his quotes that they used (especially from the Council) were a little interesting . . . very focused on ecumenism and focus on the layman instead of the priest. Not that any of what was said was wrong, it just seemed that there was a great, perhaps unbalanced emphasis on that. It just rubbed me the wrong way, I guess. But I did like it for the most part.

I really liked another film about John Paul II which starred Albert Finney. It was made in the eighties and was excellent (I think it's better than this one).

I saw that one on the way to WYD 2002! I thought it was really good, too.

I thought the movie was very well-done and very moving. I particularily liked the last half of the movie where the focus was more on the religious life of John Paul II. This movie was definitely a tear-jerker, though.

if anyone hears how the film can be purchased or obtained, please post it.

(no cable in my house)

thanks, it sounds really good.

I only got to watch about the last hour or so (highly unfair... a friend was over and very distracting)...

However, I was wondering how much of it was "spiffed up" for the movie and how much was true. So now I am reading George Weigel's biography ("Witness to Hope" with renewed vigor to finish the almost 900 page book!).

The ending, when they showed footage of the real JPII's election was good. It was funny to think how different he looks, since, as one who reconciled only 3 years ago... I remember a greatly worn and much older-looking Pope. He was still a genius.

Well, I was reading some information about the film by the company that produced it, and it said that John Paul II was actually able to view this film before his death. So I'm assuming it was pretty accurate.

I'd like to buy if you know how post it!

I can try making a DvD or VHS copy for you.

I'm TiVo-ing the Sunday 9am commercial free showing. I'm hoping I can use the DVD recorder and save it.

If someone pays shipping, I can probably send copies out. I'm a poor college bum, otherwise I'd just pay the shipping myself.

I saw about 1.5 hours of it (at the end). I was just bawling when they did the conclave. The actor playing JPII was great. I actually *liked* the political parts (I'm a Cold War buff, what can I say?) but there were parts that were either jerky or slow.

***********SPOILER!!!!!!!!!!!*********************************

The part where he reconciled with the guy who was spying on him--that was AWESOME!
