Apparantly Sungenis has another "Not by" book coming out presenting his case for geocentrism.

That should be an interesting read.

What is in brief, is "geocentrism"?

The belief that the earth is the center of the universe...Robert Sungenis maintains that the center of the universe is actually Alexandria, Virginia :idontknow: go figure...

I see.... technically speaking, one cannot prove this to be impossible, only infinately improbable.

I would just claim error through the science of common sense, which pertains to concepts that seem to be extremely ellusive in this day and age.

is it the center of the universe, or the center of our galaxy?

I'm confused................

The center of our planetary system would be the sun? wouldn't it?

I have absolutely NO IDEA how the sun places itself with respect to our galaxy (I haven't toured that far yet), but in terms of the universe, all the stars in the universe are moving away from each other, and with sufficient data science may one day be able to pin point a precise place where the 'BigBang' occured. This obviously would be billions of light years away. I know for a fact that this particular point is not within our galaxy.

Now I suppose you can argue that the point of the 'bigbang' is not the center of the universe, but this argument will be philosophical in nature and not scientific (purely speaking).

On a final point, the dominant theories are those of relativisim, which debunked the theories of the 'Ether; an abosolute measure of space within which matter travels' and in the view of this theory (not first advance by Einstein by the way), there is no such thing as the 'center' of the universe.

Let me elaborate: A cricle has a center - why, because relative to its edges, there is such a thing as a point, located a equidistant porportions to each point on its edge. But the universe has no such edge, thus no such edge within which to measure equidistance and identify a center.

Simple enough really....

Doesn't a geocentrist believe that the universe orbits the earth?

that's my question, is it the universe or the planets of our galaxy?

Geocentrism is an earth centered universe

Posted

Technically speaking, since everything is relative, as the earth circles the sun, the sun also circles the earth. The same is applicable in a universe model thus in a very real respect a geocentrist can accurately describe the movements of the universe with the given hypothesis that the earth does not move and is indeed the center of the universe.

However, this line of thought ignores the fact that someone standing on Mars will llook to the earth and see it rotate around Mars instead of Mars rotating around the earth (the vise versa of a person on the earth), and thus, the theory is relative to where someone is standing in the universe. In this sense, though technically if the orignial hypothesis is taken as correct it may accurately describe the movements of the universe, yet it is somewhat incomplete since what will be observed from the earth will be identical 'in nature' to what is observed at the other side of the galaxy. This identical view (in principal) will thus create an equally compelling argument in favor of an alien life living on a planet and arguing the their planet, and not the earth, is the center of the universe.

The same term could apply to both beliefs. Geocentric literally means "earth centered," so it doesn't specify whether it is the galaxy or the universe...
