I am a Protestant in transition either to Eastern Orthodoxy or Catholocism. It all started by studying by reading the Early Church Fathers & understanding the Nature of Tradition. The issue for me seems to come down to the question of Authority!

It seems that Catholicism argues that the Pope has always been the head of the Church.

Eastern Orthodoxy says that the Bishop of Rome was given Primacy but not Supremacy.

Can anyone please direct me to some good resource to study this topic?

Peace,

I would also look to what Cardinal Newman had to say in his work: Pope St. Leo the Great, the "Robber" Council of 449, and the Council of Chalcedon in 451

Here is an interesting article about the The Ante-Nicene Development of Papal Primacy

Good Luck and God Bless.
