Aloysius Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 When I go to college this year I have decided to start an official club (I need at least 15 people to join) called the "Latin Mass Posse" so I can officially fundraise for gas and turnpike money. Why? you ask? Well, because Latin Mass is not offered in the diocese of greensburg and the only place we can go is St. Boniface in Pittsburgh. Anyhoo... I wouldn't have it any other way, because my fiance will also be attending St. Boniface every sunday and we will go out to lunch then : So anyway, I like the ironic use of the term "posse" in the name of my club... what do you think? I suppose if the club becomes well established enough we'd get a priest and ask the bishop for an indult there, but I like that we have to drive to pittsburgh every sunday : St. Boniface rocks my socks, too, the byzantinesque roman feel to it is uber cool. So yeah, Latin Mass Posses are dope. Start one in your hometown! Here's what a Latin Mass Posse does (I've had one all summer) They go to Latin Mass together on a regular basis (the further away it is, the more fun it is : everyone can chip in for gas money) After mass they go out for lunch, subway is our LMP's traditional spot. We had a group of four regulars and a weekly "guest star" in our LMP. Every once in a while, your LMP should travel outside Rome to give a look at local eastern catholic churches :
Laudate_Dominum Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I was once a member of the posse of that sort. We would attend Mass at St. Boniface every Sunday and go to lunch afterwards. There is this german place which has a buffet type thing that is not far from St. Boniface. I recommend it. Oh, and we would go to Eastern Liturgies sometimes too. :
Aloysius Posted August 17, 2005 Author Posted August 17, 2005 cool! we were looking for a place closer to st. boniface; I had thought the Fish Market in the Strip District, lol, but that's kind of expensive and formal for a lunch. so you went to St. Boniface? you still go there? I love it. Fr. Myers is an awesome priest, I always prefer him to the other guy as both the homilist and confessor, but obviously he cannot be both every week : lol anyways, fooey, I always thought this was my original idea! err... at least I came up with the name!
Laudate_Dominum Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 I still go to St. Boniface on occassion, but I'm not the regular I once was. And yeah, Fr. Meyers is mad cool. Have you ever been to any of the latin mass community stuff, such as the parish picnic? I always love that kind of stuff. The posse is an excellent idea by the way. People should be starting them all over. God bless you sir.
Niccolò Posted August 17, 2005 Posted August 17, 2005 Sadly, I'm the only one I know who goes to TLM on a weekly basis (San Diego indult) . Your idea sounds awesome though, I especially like the part about attending a Divine Liturgy (facilitating true ecumenism and such).
Aloysius Posted August 18, 2005 Author Posted August 18, 2005 well I was talking about Eastern Rite Divine Liturgies, and since the Eastern Rites are in full communion with Rome there's no need for ecumenism really but yeah that's still pretty cool. anyway, get some friends. it's crazy the types of people you never expect to like it love it.
Niccolò Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005
well I was talking about Eastern Rite Divine Liturgies, and since the Eastern Rites are in full communion with Rome there's no need for ecumenism really but yeah that's still pretty cool.
I know, there's a nice Melkite church less than 10 minutes away from where TLM is celebrated weekly, though since Eastern Catholic theology is nearly identical to Eastern Orthodox, it could be seen as true ecumenism also (ya know mutual understanding and whatnot) : . Eh, it's hard getting people up at 8 AM when there's a Pauline mass at 9 PM just over at the school chapel haha.
popestpiusx Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 I already have a Latin Mass posse of sorts. Every Sunday for over three years my wife, two kids (soon to be three), sister -in-law, and I have loaded up in the van and headed down the road to either DC, Baltimore, or one of the other area choices. I wonder how much I have spent on gas?
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 we have a pretty sweet indult in my town
brendan1104 Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 where do u live/ buffalo has 2 indults- : and i sing in one of the schola cantorums and serve as well.
zwergel88 Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 wow, Aloysius, and L_D, you guys are both from the Pittsburgh area! cool beans! Pittsburgh rocks!
zabbazooey Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 I wanna attend TLM, but I'm too scared to go by myself. Someone travel to Omaha and pick me up! :
zwergel88 Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005
(I need at least 15 people to join)
I had no idea you lived so close. I wanna join.

I need 15 people from St. Vincent College to make it an official club and fundraise for gas since the Greensburg diocese doesn't have an indult.
zabbazooey Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 i wanna be in it....i live too far away, huh?

Aloysius Posted August 20, 2005 Author Posted August 20, 2005 I have no problem, chip in for gas money and that'd be sweet. we'll have to plan it out, I'm movin into college on the 26th so I'll contact you when our group is established. the 15 number was so I could hopefully officially fundraise for gas money
zwergel88 Posted August 20, 2005 Posted August 20, 2005 I'd be happy to chip in for gas. Heck we could even use my car, it seats 6, and gets a wooping 12 miles per gallon. This will be awesome! PM me when you get it started up!
