Anti-war mom Sheehan's husband files for divorce
Mr. Sheehan has been silent about the separation and his wife's anti-war activism. His lawyer, Glen Andrew DeRonde of Fairfield, Calif., yesterday declined to comment on the divorce filing.
The couple, who were high school sweethearts and wed on April 30, 1977, had four children. Their oldest son, Army Spc. Casey Sheehan, 24, of Vacaville, Calif., was killed in April 2004 while serving in Iraq. He died in a Baghdad ambush less than a month after he arrived in Iraq as a member of the 82nd Field Artillery Regiment.
The Sheehans separated in June. Mrs. Sheehan acknowledged the split publicly in interviews, saying the breakup resulted from differences in how the two handled the grief over their son's death.
She told Time magazine that Mr. Sheehan couldn't stand having Casey's belongings at home and put them in storage. "We grieved in totally different ways. He wanted to grieve by distracting himself. I wanted to immerse myself," she said.
Members of her husband's family have criticized her. Last week, Casey's aunt and godmother, Cherie Quararolo of Kelseyville, Calif., and others in the family sent e-mail to a California radio station that challenged Mrs. Sheehan's motives.
"We do not agree with the political motivations and publicity tactics of Cindy Sheehan. She appears to be promoting her own personal agenda at the expense of her son's good name and reputation," the family members said. "The rest of the Sheehan Family supports the troops, our country, and our president, silently with prayer and respect."
If this woman was camped out in front of Mike Moore's private residence, she'd be arrested.

If Mr. Bush relents and speaks to her, it would be an open invitation to every other crackpot that opposes his policy.

very very true...
i noticed that many news reports dont point out that President Bush HAS spoken with her already once before
there are family photos of Bush with her (HERE)

It is too bad that this is a mother crazy from grief and needs some kind of therapy or counseling and does not need MoveOn.org (formerly “9/11 peace”) and these other pink ribbon, everything is Vietnam groups whispering in her ear
Ya, I believe she is being used

I certainly can understand how awful (though a necessary process) at times grief can be, I don't mean to diminish or ignore what pain she is going through. But her son, along with others -- went into service voluntarily. It sounds like he was a kid with a good heart. But with one's decisions in life, there are consequences.
“That’s all he wanted to do was serve God and his country his whole life,” Carly Sheehan said. “He was a boy scout from age 6 or 7 and an Eagle Scout. It was kind of a natural progression to go into the military from that. He said he was enjoying the military because it was just like the boy scouts but they got guns.”

-Casey's sister, Carly Sheehan
And there's the kicker -- the military is not "just like the boy scouts."

If Cindy Sheehan wishes to continue to work with the movement against the war in Iraq, I think she is perfectly free to do so. It will probably take many years for her work her way through her grief, and I think her concerns and anger are in many ways justified.

But camping outside of the Crawford Ranch on someone else's private property waiting for answers she simply isn't going to get from the President is a waste of time.

I think that what Sheehan is doing is awesome. She doesn't agree with the war so she is trying to do something about it. She has every right to protest in front of Bush's ranch. If he is so sure that going to war was the right thing to do, he should grant her request which is to explain to her why her son didn't die in vain.

This woman is completely entitled to her opinion. What gets me though is the fact that her son, Casey, had the exact opposite viewpoint. She is choosing to express her grief through her anger and personal convictions rather than honoring her son and what he stood for.

I also think that she said Bush “killed her son” although he volunteered to join the military, and as a mechanic – if I am not mistaken – when offered the option, he chose to go to Iraq
I also think that her entire family has begged her to stop [BAM](maybe because she needs real help) and has not only distanced themselves from her but renewed support of our country and president [BAM]
I also think that she claimed that America has never been worth fighting for and that she will never pay taxes…

What really bugs me is the MSM (main stream media) refuses to report the facts that she already met with the President [BAM]… and she really wants to meat with him again – that she is now working alongside –I think used by- anti-war, and political activists (she is portrayed as a politically independent heartbroken mother), and the MSM does not report her outlandish and crazy new beliefs ... like politicians kids don't serve - why is that? [BAM - fact? noooooooooooo] um last i checked Cindy, again - it's a volunteer military - lady you dont get it!~ this is not the draft Vietnam years ... you may not believe it but many Americans believe this is a country worth fighting for [BAM]

She is crazy with grief – in a greatly depressed state, and using her dead son as a crutch… and does not need to be USED by the liberal extremists the way she is

I actually don't agree with that. Politician's kids don't go to war because they can pay for their college education, and get a decent job. Almost everyone that I know who joined the military did it for the money, so I wouldn't exactly call that a choice.

Sheehan is entitled to protest in any way she sees fit, and I don't see why she has to be constantly attacked. I know that she did already meet with the president, but she didn't get the answers that she wanted, and she is simply doing everything she can to obtain an answer. It is people like her who are the reason why America has remained a democracy for so long. We should be proud of her.

I really don't want to get into a big fight about this, so I probably won't even check this thread again. Politics makes me crazy!

yes she has every right... this is the USA - and God bless her for it
but i do hate the one sided msm coverage of it
for example: 'THE BIGGEST TERRORIST IN THE WORLD IS GEORGE W. BUSH'

if the msm is going to build her up and set her on a platform (for ratings and $$$?) then why dont they do thier job and show us what she is and what she says?

i only wonder what happened to honest investigative journalism?
i guess that exited when liberal bias in the media entered

She thinks shes doing a favor for America's troops and ally troopers but, shes actually damaging them, as opposed to helping them.

Look I dont care if you are For the War or Against it, You always support our troops.

I understand this woman lost her son in Iraq but thats no reason to go bash our President for something he can't stop. Rather than complain about our dying troops she sould support them more heartly. and not weaver.

I will respectfully disagree -- to me, I see it as a choice. I grew up in a very blue-collar level of income household, and had to pay my entire way through college, and am still paying off loans. But that was my choice. I had a full-ride scholarship right there if I would have joined the ROTC. I seriously thought about it, and chose not to, despite the fact that I could have used the money -- and my father was angry because he felt I didn't realize "how much it (college) was going to cost." But it wasn't something I felt comfortable committing to. There are other ways to achieve your goals without having to resort to going into the military.

Not that I'm defending the war in Iraq itself. I never agreed with how we went about going to war there -- but people have got to be aware of what may happen when you join the military. I don't think she's ever going to get any answers from Bush that she will find satisfactory.
'This country is not worth dying for.' If we're attacked, we would all go out. We'd all take whatever we had. I'd take my rolling pin and I'd beat the attackers over the head with it. But we were not attacked by Iraq. We might not even have been attacked by Osama bin Laden if 9/11 was their Pearl Harbor to get their neo-con agenda through . . ."

Were these just the ravings of a distraught mother, who in the same speech called President Bush a terrorist and accused the United States of using nuclear weapons in Iraq? Sheehan made her odd remarks at a rally for attorney Lynne Stewart, who represented the mastermind of the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993 and was convicted earlier this year of providing material support for terrorism when she acted as a conduit for terrorist instructions from her client Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman. Interestingly, of the journalists who have canonized Sheehan, none has seen fit to report her earlier remarks or her advocacy on behalf of Stewart.
Cindy Sheehan is being used by extreme EXTREME radical leftist groups in this country. Groups like Moveon.org and Micheal Moore. Groups that think America is the problem. She is being USED and its very very sad. Although it may seem so, the leftists DO NOT care about her or her son, they just want to use her to further their extreme politcal agenda.

Oh yes – I believe that… when MoveOn.org is placing major money into her anti-war group “Gold Star Families” (along with extremists TrueMajority and Democracy for America) and organizing the vigils in Crawford …her wild accusations make sense, because you can consider the source. Wild accusations like her accusing the U.S. of using nukes in Iraq (???)
