I'm in a Bible study through my parish -- we started out doing a six-week parish-sponsored study and decided to keep going on our own. We're getting started for the fall next week.

In preparation, I sent out an e-mail with details about where we'd meet, what to read, and a set of questions we'll be discussing. Here's how the discussion progressed:
R: Are we doing food? Pitch-in?  Munchies?  White Castle?

Me: I think munchies, although I'm open to a pitch-in. White Castle is disgusting.

M: I completely agree regarding White Castle, if by "disgusting," you mean "AWESOME!"

D: I actually think you're BOTH right  -  White Castle is somehow disgusting AND awesome. I guess it's awestusting.

Me: I don't think I can be in a small group where people think White Castle is awesome. That's sick.

J: I don't think I can be in a small group with this many daily emails...who are you people?! :)  miss you, too

N: I feel obligated to weigh in on the White Castle issue since I have put away my fair share of "sliders" as  they were called up in Chicago.  They are disgusting but it takes one good serving of at least 10 (5 with coagulated milk) every 6 months to be reminded of just how bad they are!
So you can see how I'll be voting in this poll. Just wondering where others stand on this life-defining question.

I haven't had a "Gut Bomb" in years... I can't remember what I think of them...

(but i've heard that they have the taste some people can't live without...)

I live in AZ, so I've never had it...I WANT IT THOUGH!!!

My wife's from Michigan and she says it's pretty nasty...

"Sliders" have a reputation for being best appreciated at 2 or 3 AM after the bars close...

Yeah, that's what my friend Frank just said. Every time he's had them, it's been in exactly that scenario.

We only have Krystal down South where I live, but the concept and product is the same. Those things are awesome! I can pack down a bunch of those things. I want to try a sackful in one sitting, but I'm gonna have to run a marathon before and after eating them.

That's what most people call White Castle hamburgers.

The White Castle part or the hamburger part? (no insult intended, I don't know if they serve hamburgers in Northern Ireland).

The burgers are kinda unique - very small and thin, with five holes punched in it (one in each corner and one in the middle). Normally, they are grilled on the grill with chopped onions.

They're called "sliders" because they're very greasy -- they slide right on down.

And 1337 k4th0l1x0r -- I was just in North Carolina and saw a Krystal and wondered if it was just like White Castle. Thanks for clearing that up for me, and saving me from making a horrible mistake at some point in the future.

White Castle is a chain of hamburger fast food places.

Sliders sound like the American equivalent of a donair. Except on a bun. And it's a burger. With a pickle. And no tomatoes, onions, pita bread, garlic sauce or spice in the meat.

But still greasy and gross.

They're very greasy and they put the top of the bun on top of the meat while it's cooking-- to soak up some of the steam and grease. They're served with pickles and onions only (usually we have ketchup and mustard on a regular burger)... They used to sell them for a nickel a piece, but now they're like 40c or so.

Definately an aquired taste...
