Anastasia13 Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 What books are different? I don't mean like words in verses being a little different, but what books might be only in the Catholic Bible only and are all other things named the same?
StColette Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 The additional books in the Catholic Bible (and in the Greek Orthodox and Slavonic traditions) are: Tobit Judith Wisdom of Solomon Sirach (Ecclesiasticus) Baruch Letter of Jeremiah (= Baruch ch. 6) 1 & 2 Maccabees Additions to Esther (6 chapters) Additions to Daniel (3 chapters): Prayer of Azariah & Song of the Three Jews, Susanna, Bel & the Dragon Additional books found in the Greek and Slavonic Bibles, but not in the Catholic Bible: 1 & 2 Esdras Prayer of Manasseh Psalm 151 3 Maccabees Additional books in some other traditions are: 3 & 4 Esdras 4 Maccabees
StColette Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 Some translations of the Catholic Bible call certain books different the the others. For example, the DRV calls the Book of Revelation, Apocalypse.
Fides_et_Ratio Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 I like the "Prayer of Manasseh", I don't know how I'd feel about it being Scripture (I leave that judgment up to the Church), but it's a pretty cool prayer (even better in Latin...)
StColette Posted August 18, 2005 Posted August 18, 2005 This will help with the name differences http://mb-soft.com/believe/txs/bibcontn.htm
