Scapulars

I wear a scapular, but I don't know that much about it . What exactly is a scapular and what purpose does it serve?

The small scapulars that lay people wear are sacramentals and they typically have various privledges and/or indulgences associated with them. Also being invested with a scapular enrolls the person into the confraternity or third order which might be associated with that particular scapular.

The most common is the brown scapular of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
