Thy Geekdom Come Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005
Not in the modern English usage of the word worship. We do not. Languages change and in modern English it is not proper to say we worship her, though in older Catholic texts you will find it.
Agreed. EENS, I recommend not trying to show off that you know the meaning of archaic words. The Church is living, not dead. Our doctrines don't change, but languages do. We have to adapt and translate our explanations to keep up with language. Get used to it.
Thy Geekdom Come Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005
They would use a verse like 1John.3 [2] Beloved, we are God's children now; it does not yet appear what we shall be, but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. It is quite refutable of course but that is how they will justify it.
Of course, the verse is referring to the fact that our image and likeness to God will be completely restored, not that we will be gods. The only way we can be gods is for us to have complete autonomy as independent and separate from God. Because God is the source of all autonomy, and ours is a sharing in His own, to have separate autonomy would be in fact to remove His image from us, and thus not to "be perfect as (or "like") our Heavenly Father is perfect."
