...Emeril [i]is[/i] pretty lame. Iron Chef I could have let slide.

I don't think flogging is [i]quite[/i] called for, though. Perhaps you needed some non-challenging recreation, and the TV was easiest? I watch DVDs when needed. They don't suddenly turn into something lame-yet-engaging with the flip of a channel.

But then my TV doesn't receive any signals, so I don't have much choice.

Well, it depends on how you look at it, but what comes to mind is:

1. I've heard that the internet is completely dominated by pornography, to a far greater extend and on a level far beyond TV
2. There is countless criminal activity that takes place on the internet (hacking, fraud and scams, child porn, gamblings rings that are basically accountable to no one, the sale of illegal products, black market, etc..)
3. People use the internet to stalk people, do identity theft, find people to have affairs with, and have "outercourse" (aka, cybersex) via chatrooms and stuff.

The list goes on, but I'm sure the statistics on these sorts of things would make a person sick. And most of these things are not even possible with TV. The magnitide of hard-core porn, and the way it is pushed on people (including children) through span and pop-ups and things is by itself enough to show that it is worse than TV.

And I read an article once about people who waste their lives on the internet, and I believe it is more dangerous in this regard than television. People who live inside of online multi-player games and just order pizza for every meal and eventually have a heart attack at age 30 and have to be burried in a piano crate.

It is a more powerful medium and is far less regulated than TV, this is basically why its "worse", in the sense of more corrupt. I'm not saying it can't be used for good.
