Paladin D
Anyone heard of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Peter? It seems they're trying to promote the traditional Latin Mass, and they're loyal to the Pope. Also, we just got a letter from them because of a crisis, not a shortage one, but a crisis of growth. EDIT: They started out in Scranton, PA, but later on built a completely new seminary (from the ground up) in Denton, Nebraska. Era Might
They were founded by John Paul II himself, for those who chose not to join the SSPX in schism back in 1988.
Sojourner
Yeah, we have an FSSP guy who does a Latin Mass at a church 2 minutes from my house. He's cool.
All For Jesus
Yeah, I've heard of them...sound like their a great bunch. I think their seminaries are bursting at the seams...there might even be a wait list to get in (can't remember)
1337 k4th0l1x0r
I've been to an FSSP mass. They're definitely a good group and one that is most definitely not having a 'vocations crisis.'
thessalonian
I've heard Catholic Answers talk about them. I would love to attend one of their masses.
Paladin D
I'm curious as to why they are doing so well!
Sojourner
Because they're faithful Catholics, and people find that attractive.
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus
they are chills some people ACT UALLY like the TLM! (I know isn't it crazy that faithful catholics like the mass of all time) Edited August 22, 2005 by Extra ecclesiam nulla salus
theculturewarrior
I went to an FSSP mass a few times. It wasn't the "smells and bells" experience I had hoped for, and I came out of it with a new appreciation for the unbroken liturgical tradition of the Church. Paladin D
Because they're faithful Catholics, and people find that attractive.
I know that, but I'm talking about that particular celebration of the Mass. Is it Novus Ordo or Tridentine? theculturewarrior
It's Tridentine.
Aloysius
yeah, the Traditional Latin Mass is not to be underestimated. It is quite a timeless piece of liturgy. Especially infused with so many traditions and sacredness (many of which can, and should, be done in the pauline missal but are often neglected)... incence, bells, universal latin language, ad orientum position that emphasizes the sacrifice, gregorian chant, organ, tons of altar boys who actually do stuff, an altar rail and reception on the tongue on the knees.. if novus ordo churches were to do a lot of those things, especially the altar boy thing, they'd be doing better as well with vocations I love the FSSP.. Paladin D
It sounds neat, why did they replace it with the Novus Ordo?
theculturewarrior
It wasn't "replaced." The Novus Ordo is the Tridentine Mass reformed. The qualities of the Tridentine Mass Aloysius lists above should be part of the Novus Ordo too. Their discontinuation has nothing to do with either Rite.
