i hope these visits actually fulfill their objective. it seems like, if they wanted to, alot of seminaries could hide from the visitors just how disident they really are.

I can't speak for all seminaries, obviously, but I can speak for my own. At St. John Vianney, we're planning on having about 107 men and absolutely no one is in dissent here. To my knowledge, it is the largest college seminary in the United States. Everyone on staff is faithful to the Magisterium and to the Holy Father. I can't wait for these visits to start.

Is that the SJV in Minnesota? I hope? I know there have been some excellent priests out of their lately. We have two.

Thank God. I'm not a seminarian -- not yet, anyway -- but I'm just reading Michael S. Rose's great and infuriating book Goodbye, Good Men: How Liberals are Bringing Corruption Into the Catholic Church, which is all about the sad state of seminaries in the United States. The stories in this book just make me shudder.

Hopefully these visits will help toward uprooting the weeds. Those seminaries that are breeding rampant heterodoxy need to be stopped somehow. Those looking for answers regarding both the priest shortage and the sex scandals will find them in the seminaries that preach dissent.

Great news!!

The us bishops have a hardtime understanding the cause of the scandals, although most of us orthodox know exactly what caused them. Hopefully that cause will be rooted out and banished by the Vatican.

Nathan- I would caution about that book. Rose did not use good research. At least one interview in it is made up. I dont disagree with some of the premises, I just odnt trust bad scholarship.

As a seminarian and religious, I think I may speak for many seminarians in saying that I look forward to the visitation. -brother.mds

St. John Vianney in Denver is good, really good.

I think the visit will be a time of affirmation for those that are doing the right things and the others will have a tough time.

It doesn't sound like there are going to be many ways to hide what is going on at the rouge seminaries. From what i understand, they are going to go through everything.
