journeyman Posted September 27, 2005 Posted September 27, 2005 Traditionally, there were only 150 psalms (think of the older rosary - 15 mysteries - 10 Hail Marys = 150 - one use of the rosary early on was to emulate the religious who recited all the psalms in one day) I don't have my Douay Rheims bible here, but I ran into this when I was looking for a psalm, and it wasn't numbered (the way I was looking for it). I think the demarcation point was fairly early - maybe around Psalm 9? Between the NAB and the Douay Rheims, the difference was which part of 9 became 10 . . . and which part of another psalm was merged into its neighbor. I can envision a situation where the long psalm was split, and the short psalm not merged . . . resulting in 151 psalms. I haven't seen it, but that doesn't mean a lot, I haven't looked at a lot of bibles.
