prose Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 atican releases updated catechism VATICAN CITY, June 28 (UPI) -- Pope Benedict XVI unveiled an updated Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church Tuesday in St. Peter's Basilica. In 2002, the late Pope John Paul II called for the preparation of a shorter version of the Catechism, and in 2003, he appointed a commission to prepare the new text, led by Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, who is now the new pope. At Tuesday's Mass, the pope said the new catechism would allow Catholics to "rediscover the harmonious and authentic display of Catholic faith and morals." At about 200 pages, the Compendium is a much briefer version of the original work, which first appeared in 1992, the Catholic World News reported. The text returns to the old question and answer formula, while the second part is dedicated to the explanation of the commandments. Copyright 2005 by United Press International. All Rights Reserved.

Somebody can send it to you I guess. I for one, cannot wait. I've been waiting too long since I first heard about this project!
Lil Red Posted August 24, 2005 Posted August 24, 2005 i like the catechism we have now. i really don't care for the q&a style.
EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I like the part about it being around 70 pages.
Aloysius Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 I think the Q & A style is JUST what the CCD program has needed for a loong time. My mom always told me that, that while there was a lot of memorizing and stuff at least kids knew stuff... the Baltimore Catechism really was a better way to teach with the Q & A stuff. this new compendium in Q & A format (which I hear also includes prayers in Latin ) should be a requirement for CCD and relgious education everywhere! :
blueufo7 Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005
I like the part about it being around 70 pages.
For real! I've had my catechism for years and I'm still in the "I Believe in God" section... sheesh. But before I treat myself to the new catechism... I still have hopes to actually read the whole 1992 version... any tips on how to tackle it from someone who's finished it?!
Laudate_Dominum Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005
i like the catechism we have now. i really don't care for the q&a style.
Now we get both!!!
Laudate_Dominum Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 And it makes sense to have a normal QA style catechism and make is shorter so more people will likely read it. I think its a brilliant idea.
zwergel88 Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005 Wow, this is awesome. For people with short attention spans like me, a shorter version will be awesome!!!
prose Posted August 25, 2005 Author Posted August 25, 2005
i wish people wouldn't make comments like that, it really ticks me off
Comments like what? My husband just opens the catechism and reads sections periodically... I am kinda embarrased to say that I haven't read much of it at all. Just when i had to look things up.
Fidei Defensor Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005
I'll wait...........
What will be your opinion on it then? Because Holy Father Benedict approved of it, i.e. no errors.. so what If you think there are errors? Are you disagreeing with the Pope on faith and morals then?
cmotherofpirl Posted August 25, 2005 Posted August 25, 2005
I'll wait...........
Why?
