Evacuations, manditory ones, have been called for all of New Orleans, sadly they even said it would take 72 hrs just to get 70% of the population out. Since the Hurricane is now a Category 5, the leeves and flood walls can only withstand a Category 3, they've buckle and break with this one. They've also said that this one has already surpassed the power that Hurricane Andrew had and it's still growing. This is just really bad. They said if it floods, like they think it will New Orleans in parts could be flooded up to 20 ft now, cause the hurricane is supposed to hit during high tide. If that happens it'll cover up the pumps and the pumps won't be workable. They then said it would take up to 6 months to just pump out the water after they've built other pumps. Pray pray pray! SarahB Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 This is really unbelievable. I've been interested in the weather since I was about 10 years old, so I've always heard the concerns if "the big one" ever hit New Orleans. Unfortunately, it seems to be happening. I pray that his monster doesn't hit NO head on, or that it weakens or something. But that doesn't seem likely . I was up for most of last night and I'd check the tropical update every once in awhile and everytime I did, the storm seemed to get stronger and stronger. And then I woke up this morning and the winds were 175 mph. I won't say the words that came out of my mouth when I heard that, but a prayer definately followed. For all the PM'ers down in that area, know that my prayers are definately with you. I've always had a sort of special relationship with St. Therese, so I've asked her especially to watch over everyone down there. Please stay safe and once the storm passes, let us know you're ok as soon as you can. God bless, Sarah

Jazz4jesus Posted August 28, 2005 Posted August 28, 2005 (edited) ok i know this is serious, i am one of the people that is taking this hurricane really serious. but i just had a thought to lighten the stress I WANT TO GO TO THE BEACH! no really think about it if your here in Texas you are fair ways away from the storm but not too far that you wont recieve the waves from this thing. Really we have a category 5 (pray for safety of those still in NO and homes of all) the size of Louisiana (about that size)(once again pray) how could we not get waves over here, for once we would get waves. not like any of us know how to surf them since we never had them but we could body surf.
