In Star Wars, the 501st Legion (commanded by Commander Appo) were one of many of the special ops units featured in Revenge of the Sith. This particular one assaulted the Jedi Temple with Darth Vader in Episode 3. Standard units are just plain white, while "special ops" units have their own distinctive colors and markings, thus the 501st have blue markings on their armor. In reality, the 501st Legion is an international fan-based Star Wars Imperial/bad guy costuming group. They do organized charity, fundraising, promotional events, and etc. So in honor of the 501st, Lucasfilm actually named the troopers that stormed the Jedi temple in Episode 3, the 501st Legion. : It's free to join, and all you need to be is 18 years or older, get a costume, and be dedicated. There are local garrisons around the world, which helps members get together to attend/conduct local events.
