Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 My Astronomy professor is going to drive me totally insane. I swear he was a little drugged up (he just had his knee replaced) and we literally spent two hours in class talking about aliens. I think I might explode if we go any further into evolution and the beginning of the universe... He states everything like it is fact. I really do not like that at all.
jezic Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 there are a lot of professers like that in the university system. I guess we have to do a lot of praying for so many teachers and the students who have to listen to them. There needs to be something done though. They are teaching theories liek they are for sure true. That is not scientific or good.
cmotherofpirl Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 we're coming to get you do-do-do-do do-do-do-do
Brother Adam Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 lol. be careful what you say around here. Most Catholics here seem to swear by evolution as their god of creation.
homeschoolmom Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I had a professor who spent all of our class time talking about teddy bears... I think once he departed from the theme of teddy bears to discuss the whales that were trapped under ice... I hated that class and it was in my major-- which was NOT "Children's Bedtime Toys"!!
blueufo7 Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 haha, i had an anthropology prof in college... i walked into class the first day and he was young (early 30's), wearing a baby blue suit with a big yellow bow tie. i thought to myself, "interesting! professors don't really dress up that much anymore." then I sat down next to the window. a few minutes later, he came over near me and sat in the window sill to wait for class to begin. i happened to glance down. he was barefooted. his feet were dirty like he'd been walking through muddy campus without shoes. and he had painted his toenails black. this was going to be an interesting class. haha... on another note... i had a biology prof who insisted on evolution and insisted that everything in evolution HAD to be random. it was lame. i just put up with him. now, i'm getting my phd in chemistry... maybe one day i can go back and bonk him on the head. or accuse him of presenting bad science :-) good luck with the class!!
Old_Joe Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I had a biopsychology professor who stated that everything was based on Natural processes, even love. I also noticed that the textbook was a collection of his own notes, ideas, theories, etc.

I like reading books and things on biopsychology (and related fields) from time to time. I wonder if I've heard of him...

For myself, I'm willing to entertain the idea and look at the evidence, but I don't swear by it as a god or whatever. I think the ontological priority of God's creative activity trumps any developmental processes which unfold in the created order. I guess I don't really experience the same tension a lot of other people seem to feel regarding these issues.

FlyLikeABird Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 I wouldn't say that evolution and creation are mutually exclusive myself. I had an english prof (whom I really loved) who spent most debate time in a particular posture (one hand on hip, the other on forehead) she also spent a great deal of time playing with a particularly coarse eyebrow hair. : She was one heck of a prof. I hope I can take one more class with her before I graduate.

I think it's about this same thing. I think even John Paul II said that evolution was no mere hypothesis, but that we still had much to learn.
FlyLikeABird Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Sounds interesting Joe, Maybe I will. But I think it will have to wait. I'm gonna be on overload this semester.

Dreamweaver Posted September 1, 2005 Posted September 1, 2005 Haha, this reminds me of a physics instructor I had last year! I use the world instructor very loosely here. More than once, he went on big rants about biotechnology and a "grey ooze" that would eat everyone up, since we had no immunity to it. I kid you not. Another time he was explaining a long story about pigeons outside his undergrad college dorm. I don't really see how those topics pertain to physics....but...he only lasted 3 weeks before he was dismissed (or something like that). I liked his test. 5 questions. Multiple choice. You could bring a cheat sheet. Heh, easiest 100% in my life. Our next physics "instructor" wasn't much better. Smart guy, but not a teacher.
