Theologian in Training Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 (edited) Personally, from what I have seen, those that teach CCD, and want the children to learn anything, usually detract from the book often. I had a similar book last year, and told them straight out that they were being fed garbage and it is no wonder they did not understand the basics of Catholicism. I then entertained questions, and dealt with the concepts they covered, but rarely ever used the book. I used the bible (horrible translations, btw) but rarely used the book. Same thing with the third graders and the ninth graders (I taught a lot of CCD last year). I mostly encouraged questions and answered them, because they are at an inquisitive age and really want to know why they should believe what they are being taught. Tell them, and don't worry about going "off topic," where I was they used to draw pictures and color (seventh and eighth graders, mind you). Also, you might check out http://catecheticalresources.com/Teacher_Resources.htm loads of catechetical helps, activites, etc. oh you need either acrobat reader or M$ Word depending on the way it was saved. Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 Ooooo... Are there any more resources? I'm interested too... I have a group of 6th or 7th graders...
EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 The book probably is bad but CatholicCulture does have some odd biases in some of the reviews. They won't review my website because it's a "blog" (it most certainly is NOT a blog). Then they gave me multiple stories about why I wasn't reviewed, ect. even though I donated to them when they had all that financial trouble.
