Nathan Posted September 2, 2005 Posted September 2, 2005 I'm just about to order a few volumes in the Ignatius Study Bible series from Ignatius Press, but I have a question: On the covers of the books, it indicates that the translation used is the "Revised Standard Version, SECOND Catholic Edition"... now, what might that be? I've never heard of any official Second Catholic Edition of the RSV. How is the the RSV Second Catholic Edition different from the RSV Catholic Edition? And when did it start coming into use? I'm confused. Thanks a bunch.

the description of the second edition at Aquinas and More says "A completely new typeset and designed edition of the acclaimed RSV translation, with additional minor revisions to any archaic language, particularly "thee", "thou" etc. Now, the only Catholic Bible in standard English is even more beautiful in word and in looks." It will be available in October. Scott Hahn probably got access to this version in advance, since he's cool like that.
Nathan Posted September 3, 2005 Author Posted September 3, 2005 (edited) If anybody knows... Is this new RSV-CE translation an Ignatius Press (no doubt Scott Hahn-led) undertaking, or is it the work of an established Biblical commitee? If this "cleaning up" of the RSV-CE is solely an Ignatius Press project, frankly, I'll be kind of turned-off. I take this stuff pretty seriously. Edited September 3, 2005 by Nathan
phatcatholic Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 ignatius press is just a publishing company, and u can buy the RSV-CE from other companies besides them. the second edition will definitely be the work of a biblical commitee.
EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted September 3, 2005 Posted September 3, 2005 From what I understand, they aren't changing the meaning of anything, just changing "thee" to "you", ect. I am stoked about getting this translation.
phatcatholic Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 i kinda like the "thee" and the "thou".......
EcceNovaFacioOmni Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 It's definately not going to replace the original RSV-CE. Ignatius has a ton of new RSV-CE formats coming out as well. I think the SE will be easier to read and a good translation all in one.
