I saw a few posts that mention donating to the red cross.

I think the red cross does amazing things, don't get me wrong

but while I was in Honduras, they have a billboard campaign (and possibly more than just billboards) that encourages the use of condoms.

The march of dimes supports stem cell research and such.

This isn't a debate, just a warning for Catholics.

There has to be other charities that can help these people without promoting things contrary to Church teachings.

this is where i'd be torn

i am in the military and the red cross/red crescent helps us out a lot.

Huh. Thanks for the info.

I have had some strange feelings about the Red Cross for years. I prefer Catholic Charities.

I found it interesting that WalMart donated $1 million for hurricane victims to The Salvation Army. I wonder why they chose that charity?

salvation army is a cult.

Religiously yes.
But they are good people and do fine work in a disaster.
You don't inquire into someones belief system when they are saving your life.

If they are saving my life I will not stop them for a Q & A session :)

You might want to if you are in a natural disaster in a third world country and you or your family falls ill in a hospital while pregnant.

How can we place our morals on others? That's what I don't unerstand when it comes to catholics. Why do we think everyone else should bow to our morals. There are some very good reasons for promoting condoms in 3rd world countries.

And there goes any hope I ever had of being church faithful. Oh well, if it means I can't speak my mind I don't want it.

Well, what about donating to development and peace?

That is a purely Catholic organization.

I agree, Catholic organization is always the first one I think of for donating.

So laws should apply to people only if they like them?
God's laws apply to everyone whether they like them or not.
There are no good reasons for promoting the use of condoms anywhere.

If you really believe in morals than how can you be indifferent? So I suppose we should just pretend that the promotion of abortion in Africa is ok for some people, just not for us?
I'm not suggested that we need to implement Operation Rescue in the condom aisle at Walmart, but I'm certainly not going to support grave immoral things if I can help it.

And the reasons that motivate the distribution of condoms are not as noble as you might think. And rather than being complacent about it, I think the appropriate response is to point out that there are better options, no matter how difficult this might be in the face of such a vehement and sinister agenda.
