Guest axeunltd Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Did Jesus already know that Judas would betray himand if Jesus knew that Judas would betray Him, then why choose him as an apostle?
Pontifex Posted September 19, 2005 Posted September 19, 2005 This is a very good question. It is one motivated by the understanding that Jesus is both human and divine. However, we do know that Jesus had to grow in wisdom and understanding in his life. Ultimately this one is a mystery, but we know that Jesus had to wrestle with the Will of God. The agony in the Garden showed that as well as his weeping over Jerusalem and other moments of pain and disappointment, including one of the greatest pains, and that being Judas' betrayal. From the way it develops in scripture, I think Jesus grew in the knowledge of Judas' betrayal. He certainly knew it before it happened, but I do not think he had the knowledge at the moment of his call. Peace, Pontifex
