The Navarre Bible series

[Nathan]

How cool is The Navarre Bible series? Very. Really, what could be cooler than thoroughly orthodox Catholic study Bibles that present Sacred Scripture as exactly what it is: the genuine, inspired Word of God. The commentaries, drawn completely from the wisdom of the Church Fathers and official Church doctrine, are both exhaustive and stellar. The English translation used is ideal: the RSV-CE. It even features the text of the Nova Vulgata to go along with it -- the official Bible of the Roman Catholic Church.

Hats off to the folks in the University of Navarre's theology department -- the work they have done, and are doing, is so very important. These books should be cherished. So far I've got St. Matthew, St. Luke, and Revelation, and I'm looking forward to picking up more.

Here is a site that gives the Navarre Bible commentary reflections for the daily Mass Readings for those who can't shell out the bucks. I've collected them over the last year and hope to put them together in a poor mans NBC.

I'm definitely going to be scooping up the Gospel volumes later this week, at Pauline Books & Media. I wanted to get them while I was there a few days ago, but I ran out of dough!
