franciscanheart Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Of the 28 churches (minus the Cathedral) in my diocese, I do not know of one that has perpetual adoration. I'm not sure I've even found one with daily adoration. My church has something on Sundays where families gather in front of the altar for an hour and pray but Christ is not exposed. It is entirely possible that there is one out there that I don't know about but as far as I've heard and as far as I can tell after looking around on the web, there aren't any in my diocese. Being such a large area you would think that we would have one but so far no luck. I know we used to have one downtown but I think it got closed. Anyway, I'm interested in knowing how many cities have them. Certainly it can't be that uncommon. And I wonder if more rural areas have them. It would not be a huge surprise to me to find more adoration chapels in rural areas than in urban because that is just how we seem to be these days. I would be sad to know that there was one in my area and that I just didn't know about it. I have asked so many people and no one seems to know. It seems that adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is not encouraged in our churches and it makes me sad. But I suppose that is another topic for another day.
zabbazooey Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 St. Elizabeth Ann has a perpetual adoration chapel....
dUSt Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 St Maria Goretti is Arlington has daily adoration from like 7am to 10pm.
Theoketos Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 UD has perpetual Adoration. St Luke in Irving would, if it were not such a security risk, seriously.
Philomena Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 (edited) The church I go to (St. Luke's in Calgary) is starting daily adoration today. Edited September 6, 2005 by Philomena
franciscanheart Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 I know about Maria Goretti but thats Ft Worth... and UD is only on fridays from like 3:30 - 4:30 right? I really wish we had something closer.
Theoketos Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 St. Pual's in Richardson, has it all day on Friday.

Era Might Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 There aren't any perpetual adoration chapels around here, but most Churches do have adoration at least once a week.
p0lar_bear Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I don' t know about the diocese, but I'm fairly sure there are three adoration chapels in my town.
jezic Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 The Cathedral in Fargo ND has it and a couple other parishes in the area (like 3 or 4) are working towards it. outside of fargo, most parishes in my diocese don't have enough people in them for it to be possible unless people took like 2 one hour shifts a week.
Lil Red Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 there is a perpetual adoration chapel in my city. it's underfunded and the liberals of the diocese want to shut it down, but guess what? it's still there!!!
jezic Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 and people usually don't like to do that. They could have it though. Our diocese is really forward looking in this respect. Our bishop has really encouraged it. More and more parishes are working on it.
philothea Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I have found this page to be very helpful in finding adoration chapels. The city of Peoria (IL) has two perpetual adoration chapels, and I believe there is another one that is just open during the daytime. Many other churches have scheduled adoration. I don't know about the other cities in the diocese.
IcePrincessKRS Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 (edited) I know Steubenville has at least one Perpetual Adoration Chapel. Not sure about the other parishes around, by our parish, St. Peter's, does. Edited to add: From the link Philothea provided three places are listed. Steubenville, OH Franciscan University 1235 University Blvd Steubenville, OH 43952 Perpetual during academic year Steubenville, OH Holy Rosary 200 Rosemont Ave Steubenville, OH 43952 Perpetual (Rectory) Steubenville, OH St. Peter 425 N 4th St Steubenville, OH 43952 Perpetual in St. John Neumann Chapel in basement Edited September 6, 2005 by IcePrincessKRS
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 I think the nearest one to me is about a half hour drive from my home.
homeschoolmom Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 We have a bunch in our Archdiocese... Our parish has adoration for 90 minutes after daily mass.
catholicflower Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 There are several in my diocese, the closest is 2 parishes away which is 30 minutes away, but 90% of the parish has scheduled times. My parish has monday-friday 8-9am and friedyas again from 8pm- 845am
DeeDee Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 There is a beautiful Divine Mercy chapel next to a local Catholic church. It has 24 hour adoration, but sadly, there are blocks of time where nobody is present. Another adoration chapel had to change its hours because not enough people signed up for adoration.
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 we have 151 churches including the cathederal and the Basillica. in our archdioceses. is 151 a lot ?
