That way of thinking kills me. Infants who die without baptism do not enjoy a state of "natural felicity", limbo is a whack theory. There is no such thing as "pure nature" or "natural happiness", these ideas come from a flawed theology of nature and grace. Eternal seperation from God and exclusion from Beatific Vision is "Hell". There is no happiness apart from God, and there is no getting around it; hell just smells of elderberries.

What would that look like anyway? I'm eternally seperated from God, but darn it, the beer and nachos are great down here! I'm with all my buddies, there are plenty of babes.. yeah man.. *shakes head* hehe j/k

But anyway, in defense of Maritain:
In a “reverie” circulated among friends but not published until after his death, the philosopher Jacques Maritain included what he called a “conjectural essay” on eschatology
Sounds like merely "off the record" speculation, and it's not like he was propogating those ideas. I'm sure he realized they were problematic and it's not really fair to judge the integrity of his thought on the posthumous manifestation of such adventuresome ideas. I think everyone who ponders philosophy and theology to any extent has moments where they venture off into potentially pernicious territory.
