Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 I was part of a Campus Crusade for Christ Bible Study last year, and I will again this year, but I really try to understand what sorts of Catholic teachings come from the Scripture that we are using though... But I gotta go to Mass, God Bless and Mary Protect!
Norseman82 Posted September 11, 2005 Posted September 11, 2005 If you're well grounded, I see no objection. It could show them that Catholics are more scriptural than they think and it could open the door to conversion. If you are not well grounded, be EXTREMELY careful; have an "exit strategy"; it can be helpful to know non-Catholic attitudes and quoting on scripture, but you could be "jumped" by over-aggressive types.
Brother Adam Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 The only Catholic in your family? wow! God Bless you for keeping the faith in what must be a regular battle. Tell you're Aunt that she is using the Bible that the Jewish people who rejected Jesus Christ used so you wouldn't dare use any other Bible.
StColette Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 My sister and new bro-in-law are both protestant, though they hold a lot of Catholic ideals because they were raised Catholic, yet fell away. I do Bible study with my sister a lot, and with my bro-in-law when he is in town.
zabbazooey Posted September 12, 2005 Author Posted September 12, 2005 it'd probably be a bad idea....I am a fairly new convert (Easter Vigil of '04!!) and I am still trying to figure out the Catholic faith, much less try to defend it against some Protestants. Thanks for your advice, everyone I REALLY appreciate it! :
DeeDee Posted September 12, 2005 Posted September 12, 2005 I would study the Bible with whoever wanted me to study with them or wherever I found people willing to study the Bible, just as I would pray with anyone who asked me to pray with them. In fact, none of the Catholic churches I attend offerred Bible study, and neither would they let me hold Bible study workshops which I prepared -"Nobody will come!" So, I found a little local Christian Bible study group and I've been going there for several months with no problem whatsoever -none.

I would find little common ground for a bible study, especially the NT, where their beliefs are diametically opposed to Catholic dogma.
