littleflower+JMJ Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 katie is right...i got the names that I wanted while I still had a chance. when you sign up for any email you have to see if the name you choose is available to be used and not already used by someone else--if so you gotta find another one or add something to it gmail is through invite only--that means all the billions and billons of screen names that are usually the first ones taken on yahoo and hotmail are avaiable for you to use now since their not all take up yet (meaning someone used the name you wanted for the email first). now i think gmail is alot bigger in its audience so you just gotta hope the name you watned isn't already gone. either that or add numbers or spell it different--which i never liked lol so what i did was go and give myself the emails with the names i wanted so I can have them to use whenever i need them. worked out great.
morostheos Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I have 100 invites now if anyone needs one :
IcePrincessKRS Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Yeah, like if you want your e-mail address to be JohnSmith@gmail, if someone already has that e-mail address it will tell you its not available (ie, taken) and to choose another ID. Flowery is saying that she chose the IDs she uses for her e-mail accounts and made 3 accounts since all the IDs she wanted weren't used already. So, for example, she could have johnsmith@gmail, johnsmith2@gmail, and johnsmith3@gmail. The next person who wants to make an account with jihnsmith@gmail won't be able to because the name is taken, they have to choose another ID name. They can't take your name once you set up your account, by "take" we meant "not available." Someone else already created that ID for their account. Like if someone tried to make a Theologian In Training account here on phatmass, they couldn't because you already have that screenname created on the server. Still confusing?

No, it makes sense, and probably always would have, if I had just let my brain kick in for a second and realize what you were talking about. Sorry about the confusion. I was thinking something completely different, that if you created a name already that someone could freely take it. Don't ask me why I thought that, because I should have known better, but I guess my brain was focused on the other things that need to get done, and did not have the ability to think something simple through in order confuse something that should not have been difficult to understand in the first place. Sorry about that God Bless
IcePrincessKRS Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 Its ok. I do the SAME thing ALL the time. I did something similar on Sunday (a bigger blooper than my usual daily fog), in fact. I felt really stupid. lol And for anyone still in the invite market, I have 96. PLEASE take one! lol
littleflower+JMJ Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 lol don't worry TNT it was my fault for not saying it correctly. i never make sense lol sometimes i dont even understand myself lol i can easily see how you could hve thought that by how I said it lol
Theologian in Training Posted September 14, 2005 Posted September 14, 2005 I would like to thank both Micah, by the way of Sojourner and Birgitta for their generosity in giving me an invite to a gmail account. I have now set up two accounts and am quite happy with both of them. In fact, I like them so much, and am so happy with them that I am closing out my two other accounts from mail.com. Littleflower, I think a lot of it was also a misunderstanding on my part, but all is well now. Thanks God Bless
