Wearing the Rosary Around the Neck

Is wearing the rosary around ones neck -- as a necklace, in public -- at all sacreligious, or considered disrespectful?

I should note, I do not mean in wearing it "as jewelery" -- in other words, as something that looks "cool" or "pretty" -- but as an outward expression of faith, worn with pride and respect when not praying with it.

My order the Capuchins have the rosary as part of the habit, like many other orders. It is suspended from the chord that goes around my waist.

In my opinion, if someone wants to wear the rosary as a sign of devotion and a proclamation of their Catholic faith then there is nothing wrong with that.

Here in my parish in Australia we have many Filippinos who regularly hang a rosary from the rear vision mirror in their car.
