avemaria40 Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 (edited) Ok, i don't want to sound whiney r anything but i was wondering if anyone felt alone after they converted. U see, I'm in high school but i converted freshman year, so alot of the adults i know make me out to be a saint and i'm really not (though i want to be) and at home, even though some of my fam converted as a result, i still am warned not to judge anyone (even though i don't judge and i would never, 4 example, bomb abortion clinics or anything like that) and i was told in the event i had premarital sex w/anyone, i must use birth control (never mind that i promised Jesus i'd wait till marraige, of which those close to me know very well) and that i'll change my mind about sex when im in a relationship. I feel alone w/my friends b/c i get the feeling ppl see me as a goody-goody, holy, righteous person who thinks everything is a sin. Also, i've had to take some carp from ppl about how the Church is male dominated, patriarchal, and it lies and stuff even though i know what they say is BS, it feels like they're insulting me. So, does anyone feel isolated and alone after they converted? I've been Catholic for a year and i'm still having problems w/what ppl say to me or think of me b/c of it. It just seems that everyone wants me to buy into relativism and i won't do that! Edited September 18, 2005 by avemaria40
homeschoolmom Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 Yes, but in different ways than you. <sigh>
zabbazooey Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 No one in my family is Catholic, or even Christian (except for my aunt and three cousins) A lot of people I talk to think Catholicism is a cult and we worship Mary... I feel alone now because I am the most devout Catholic I know (I go to Mass every Sunday, adoration, pray, that kind of stuff) and it's hard to find someone to talk to. My 2 Catholic friends go to Mass twice a year and never go to confession. They barely know their faith. I tried talking to one of my friends about St. Padre Pio and he did not know who he was. And he grew up Catholic! The Protestant part of my family keeps trying to get me to go to their church. I went for a service one time and my relatives gave them my phone # (without my permission!) and they started calling me to try to "bring me to the light" I totally know what you're talking about, avemaria40. We converted the same time, didn't we? (Easter Vigil 2004?) PM me or e-mail me if you ever want to talk sometime!!

(Welcome to the communion of saints). That's not to say you're perfect.
zabbazooey Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 A week ago I refused a meat and coagulated milk burrito on friday because I said I abstain from meat on Friday and my relatives called me a martyr.

(I'm just joking with you, I've been called a martyr before too...) Phatmass is great for converts.
avemaria40 Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 To all converts: Welcome to the Tiber River Swim Club
theculturewarrior Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 The first rule of the Tiber River Swim Club: don't talk about the Tiber River Swim Club. (I'm inept at movie humor. How was that? )
avemaria40 Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 Did u get that from fight club? Haven't seen that, but that was pretty good
zabbazooey Posted September 18, 2005 Posted September 18, 2005 HSMom -- I had no idea that not eating meat of Friday required a burning at the stake What the Tiber Club??

avemaria40 Posted September 18, 2005 Author Posted September 18, 2005 The Tiber River is the river that runs through Rome. Since the Pope is in Rome, ppl refer to it as "swimming the Tiber" when u convert to Catholicism. I found a Catholic T-Shirt that says Property of the Tiber River Swim Club w/ the Christian fish symbol swimming in water and that's where i got it from.

It ought to be: The first rule of the Tiber River Swim Club: you must talk about the Tiber River Swim Club. *Hooray for the New Evangelization!*
avemaria40 Posted October 10, 2005 Author Posted October 10, 2005 One of the funniest T-shirts i saw was the B4 you even ask.....You should enjoy our large family. My kids will be paying for your social security. If God sees fit to bless me with many children in the future, i will so buy that shirt.
