Noel's angel Posted September 20, 2005 Author Posted September 20, 2005 What can I say? we love our nuns!
Theoketos Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Um, I have no idea what happend to my first post... But I did the Math. Look at this: (Laity apx:Priest) Diocese of Lincoln Nebraska 90,000:148 Diocese of Dallas, Texas 1,000,000 (that is generously low) :: 77 priests If Dallas has the same ratio of priests to people as Lincoln does that means my diocese would have over 1,700 priests. See what being orthodox means?
philothea Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 (edited) Hrmn. I don't know how to find these stats! Looking... Aha, there we go. Diocese of Peoria: Total Number of Catholics: 240,680 Total Priests in Diocese: 298 Permanent Deacons: 94 Sisters: 292 (more less interesting stats available too) Edited September 21, 2005 by philothea
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 May I ask where I find these statistics, and James, I was wondering the same... I've seen this thread many times, and it confuses me every time.
Theoketos Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Well many diocesan websites have them. I asked my priest to see the priest directory in Dallas, since I am the youth minister.
Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Lucky... this is what I found on our Diocese's website: According to the diocese’s annual general report to the Vatican for the year ending Nov. 2002: * There are 418,891 Catholics in the diocese’s 11-county area. * The diocese includes 105 parishes. * It is served by a total of 166 priests incardinated in our diocese and another 13 priests from other dioceses who serve here. * There are 48 religious priests, 112 permanent deacons, 250 religious women and 17 religious brothers serving in the diocese. * Six men were ordained to the priesthood in 2002, and four diocesan priests died. * There are 47 men studying for the Rockford diocesan priesthood at various seminaries. He he... I also found out what my Bishop does too: Bishop Doran currently serves on the following Committees and Boards: * Chairman of the USCCB Canonical Affairs Committee * Administrative Committee of the USCCB * Ad Hoc Committee on Sexual Abuse of Minors * President of the Institute on Religious Life * Board of Catholics United for the Faith * Trustee for The Catholic University of America Bishop Doran previously served on the following Committees and Boards: * Subcommittee to draft the US Bishops' application of plan to implement Ex Corde Ecclesiae * Consultant to the Ad Hoc Committee to Oversee the Use of the Catechism * The subcommittee to study the Interdicasterial Instruction on Certain Questions Regarding the Collaboration of the Non-Ordained Faithful in the Sacred Ministry of Priests * Ad Hoc Committee on the Forum * Board of National Rural Life Conference * Chairman of Region VII Bishops * Administrative Committee of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (1997-2000) * Administrative Board of the U.S. Catholic Conference (1997-2000) * Mixed Commission to revise the "Essential Norms" for Diocesan/Eparchial Policies Dealing with Allegations of Sexual Abuse of Minors by Priests or Deacons * Commission on Science and Human Values * Committee on Women in Society and in the Church * Common Ground Initiative

Piccoli Fiori JMJ Posted September 21, 2005 Posted September 21, 2005 Hey! You got two hermits! That's a new one! Totally cool though! EDIT: The DIocese of Joliet is very secretive about numbers... they list the numbers of Catholics and Catholic Families, but that is it. No Priest numbers or anything! Crazy Diocese...
