Personality and attractiveness

My friend Daniel and I were just having a discussion about a TV show which he occasionally watches and I've seen once. I said, "There are a lot of beautiful women on it."

He said, "Yeah, but they're all witches."

I said, "Yeah, for me if a guy is really good-looking but he's a jerk, it really takes away from his physical good looks."

Daniel agreed that the same was true for him when it comes to women, but he said that's not true for most men.

So I'm wondering what you all think. How does a person's personality affect how you perceive their physical attractiveness, or attractiveness in general? Along the same lines, does a great personality (encompassing things like strong faith, humour, intelligence, etc.) overcome what otherwise might be physical shortcomings?

It's the same for me.

If a man is good looking but I discover that his personality is unattractive, then his physical appearance is less attractive as well.

Same goes for the opposite as well. If a man who has physical shortcomings has a great personality, I tend to find him more physically attractive.

I've come to realize that looks go away in time. Would I rather be with a man who is good looking now with an unattractive personality and in 50 years, those looks are gone as well? Or would I rather be with a man whose personality is wonderful to me. No matter what he looks like now or in 50 years, that personality will still be there for me to treasure.

A good personality definitely makes a man look more physically attractive in my eyes. :)

Intelligence and virtue attract me vastly more than any physical characteristic.

I swoon when my husband talks to me about uber-geek stuff.

(Okay, he is actually handsome too, but it was the assembly programming that hooked me.)

So you're saying you agree because you'd rather laugh than frown so you keep your youthful good looks?

So do I! :saint: :)

I totally see personality and faith first than looks.

Oh man...this is beyond true. Sure, looks might make you do a double-take in the beginning, but if the personality isn't there, then nooo way.

Basically what everyone else said. And I usually end up falling for the goofy cute guys. They're the best. :)

Does her sweetness enhance her beauty, in your opinion?
